Last week at our monthly lunch meeting at State & Main Coffee we had a great time talking with a group from the Mason County Central Forensics team! The club provided some much needed financial support ($500) to the club for activities that include competitions in Mackinac Island! We love supporting local youth in our communities! If you are interested in joining us as we make a difference for programs like these, please reach out to a club member or go to our Facebook or website pages for more contact information, we would love to have you join us as we make a difference in our small town! Scottville is part of larger conversation for a multi-use trail that is being proposed throughout sections of Mason County. Eventually the trail would link DDowntown Scottvilleinto the Hart/Montague trail and provide a safe route along the US10 corridor linking Scottville.

The Mason County Multiuse Trails (MCMUT) Task Force is a community-driven partnership working to expand and connect a network of safe, accessible, and enjoyable trails throughout Mason County. Bringing together local governments, community organizations, businesses, and residents, the Task Force supports trail planning, development, and funding efforts that enhance opportunities for walking, biking, outdoor recreation, and non-motorized transportation. By creating connections between communities, parks, schools, waterfronts, and other destinations, the Task Force seeks to improve quality of life, promote healthy lifestyles, support local tourism and economic development, and showcase the natural beauty and unique character of Mason County for residents and visitors alike.

Norm Cox of Greenway Collaborative, has created a survey to solicit the community’s input on our first trail segment: Cartier Park to PM River Access Park. This segment combines a section of “Segment 1” (Ludington State Park to Downtown Ludington) with a section of “Segment 2” (Downtown Ludington to Mason County Campground), making a fundable segment that connects two recreation assets (parks) and largely follows existing US Bike Routes.

Please take a look at the Draft Plan for more details and then complete a brief Survey to share your thoughts and help shape the final plan.

Optimist President Joe Knowles met with the Mason County Central School District Varsity Baseball team to present them with the $500 sign donation. The team has had a lot of rain outs this spring; but is looking forward to a great rest of the season! The Scottville Optimist Club is proud to support local youth and athletics like MCC baseball. If you are interested in seeing more things that we help and support, please come join us the first Wednesday of each month at State & Main Coffee at 12 noon for our membership meetings. See what we are doing in our community and see how you can help us BE A PART OF THE CHANGE!

Last Friday 7 volunteers from the Scottville Optimist Club helped out at the long time Optimist Track Invite at MCC Athletic Boosters.

We are terrible at getting pictures of the group together, but we did help take tickets at the gate, measure the shot and discus, and helped with the medal distribution. We love helping our local kids, schools, and community at events like these. If you are interested in becoming a Scottville Optimist Club member, we meet on the first Wednesday of each month for a member update meeting at State & Main Coffee at 12 noon. We even provide pizza for those who join us each month. Stop in to say hello and see what other great things we do and how you can help us!
