We will NEVER Forget!

NEVER FORGET | Today, we honor the life and sacrifice of Sergeant Butch Baker and Detective Elizabeth Butler. February 26 marks the 13th anniversary of their ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty for our community.

This morning, the Santa Cruz Police Department conducted a flag-lowering and a moment of silence in their memory.

To Sergeant Baker and Detective Butler, we will forever thank you for your service, convictions, and devotion to duty. May you rest in peace, knowing your fellow brothers and sisters are watching over your family and continuing the Watch.

Our Santa Cruz community was instrumental in creating the beautiful garden with permanent memorial plaques, a fountain, and hardscape as a lasting tribute to honor Sergeant Baker and Detective Butler's commitment, service, and ultimate sacrifice to public safety.

The Baker-Butler Memorial Garden is a community space to stop and reflect, and for some to bring flowers, tokens, and cards in honor of our fallen officers.
