We have some wonderful news to share! 🪜💙

Damians Ladder has received a $5,000 grant from the Visiting Angels Foundation. This gift means a great deal to us. Visiting Angels was among the very first to sit at the table when Damians Ladder was just an idea, and almost three years later, they're still believing in us.

This grant will help us complete up to 100 small but critical home repairs for Santa Cruz County seniors, at low or no cost. No one should have to put off a safety repair because they can't afford it.

Thank you, Visiting Angels, for your friendship, your trust, and for recommending us to the families you serve. You've helped us keep climbing. 🙏

SERVICE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Damians Ladder is asking anyone in the Santa Cruz area with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or general handyman skills who is looking for an opportunity to serve Seniors and people with disabilities to consider volunteering with us.

We are a nonprofit that provides essential small home repairs at low or no cost, depending on the situation. Our goal is to keep Seniors safe in their homes without them having to choose between eating and getting repairs made. Demand for our services keeps growing, month by month.

Since we started in December of 2023, we have completed almost 1000 repairs, mostly in North and Mid-County. We welcome volunteers from South County. We currently get at least 50 repair requests per month. Why we do this: A single fall can end an older adult's ability to live independently. A loose stair railing, a shower without a grab bar, a dark walkway — these aren't minor inconveniences; they're the difference between safety and a life-altering injury. Damians Ladder exists to close that gap, one repair at a time.

You can give as little or as much time as you prefer. Materials are provided. Whatever time you have will be truly welcome. Ask the volunteers already doing this work, and they'll tell you it's some of the most meaningful service they've ever given. Clients have called them "skilled," "professional," and "wonderful” people who showed up, fixed what was broken, and treated them with dignity.

We hope you will join us. You can learn more about us at damiansladder.org. Email - [email protected]

City of Scotts Valley Grant to Damians Ladder makes a difference for local Seniors.

In May of 2026 Damians Ladder received a $7,000.00 grant to help Seniors in Scotts Valley with small home repairs. This grant allowed us to complete 110 repairs for Seniors in Scotts Valley during the grant period from July 2025 - June 2026

Our mission is to enable seniors to remain safe and comfortable in their own homes by providing small, essential home repairs and modifications at low- or no-cost.

With this funding we were able to perform repairs such as installing handrails, fixing leaking sinks, installing smoke alarms, repair bathroom fans, installing weatherstripping, small plumbing and electrical repairs and other types of requests from Senior residents of Scotts Valley. Five of our Field Volunteers live in Scotts Valley and were happy to be able to support their community because of this grant for materials.
“We are especially grateful to the Scotts Valley Senior Center and the Fire Department for helping us to get word out to Seniors in Scotts Valley during the grant period” said Chuck Maffia, Board Chair of Ladder. “Their strong community outreach programs helped to connect with Seniors who might need our help.”
As a nonprofit organization in Scotts Valley, we take our commitment to our community seriously. We are grateful to the City of Scotts Valley for putting their trust in our program and prioritizing the needs of Seniors in the community. That is why this is such a wonderful place to live!

Our Field Volunteers give their time, skills and talents freely and graciously. Our clients are welcoming and really great to work with. They remind us everyday that what we do makes a difference.

It's that time of year again!. The Duckies are running. Please join the wonderful folks at Omega Nu Santa Cruz for the 36th Annual Ducky Derby on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 live at Harvey West Park. The event will be from 10:30am - 3:30pm.

This is their major fundraiser and we hope you will consider adopting a duck or becoming a sponsor. Your support allows them to continue giving support in Santa Cruz County. They rely on sponsors like you to help them give scholarships to local high school students, stipends to local public school teachers, and charitable donations to nonprofits in the Santa Cruz community whose focus is on children and families.

Damians Ladder would like to thank Jim with New Concept Office in Morgan Hill for helping us to furnish our first business office in Scotts Valley. We are a small nonprofit and don't have lots to spend of office furnishings. We were able to get a set of office chairs, a standing desk, small filing cabinet and desk chair from Jim at incredibly reasonable prices.
Please check them out if you need office furnishings. They are a great company!! https://www.nwnewconcept.com/

Damians Ladder is proud to have participated in the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz most recent workshop on networking for nonprofits.

The workshop was excellent and reminded me of so many key things to remember when maintaining a strong business network. Deborah Lindsay did an excellent job of guiding us through an effective networking strategy.

We truly appreciate the Community Foundation and the Nonprofit Community Connection for their commitment to local nonprofit organizations. I look forward to the next event.
