Hi Schererville Soccer Club Families,
THIS MESSAGE IS JUST FOR IN-HOUSE PLAYERS A SEPARATE MESSAGE WILL BE SENT OUT REGARDING TRAVEL/NWISL
An important update regarding this weekendโs In-House games at Stephen Park. Due to the current field conditions and continued power outages, Soccerama and all In-House games scheduled for this Saturday at Stephen Park have been canceled.
-------------------------------------------------
We also want to provide some additional context regarding the conditions at Stephen Park.
There is still standing water on some of the fields, and as that water continues to drain, those areas will become muddy. Playing on fields that are wet and saturated can cause additional damage and make it much more difficult for the fields to recover and be ready for play.
In addition, there is currently no electricity at Stephen Park, which means the bathrooms are closed. This leaves everyone at the park with access to only ONE portable restroom located on the field. With the number of players, families, coaches, and spectators who attend our In-House games, this is obviously not an ideal situation.
Another important factor is the condition of the grass. Schererville Soccer Club rents the fields from the Town, and the Town is responsible for cutting the grass at the park. Once the grass has been cut, our Club can complete the field lining. Unfortunately, we cannot line the fields until the grass has been cut, so we are currently dependent on the Townโs mowing schedule.
If the grass is too long, the ball will not roll properly, which makes it difficult to conduct games as intended and does not provide the proper playing conditions for our players.
We also want to remind everyone that Stephen Park is a public park, so unfortunately, the Club does not have the ability to patrol or prevent people from using the fields. That said, we are asking everyone to please continue to stay off the soccer fields this week. Giving the fields time to dry out and โhealโ will help prevent further damage and give us the best opportunity to have them in good condition and ready for play next week. Coaches can find an alternate location to hold practice but we ask that you remain off the fields this week.
We know this is disappointing, especially after all of the challenges and changes weโve already experienced this season. We truly appreciate everyoneโs patience, flexibility, and continued support.
The Board is working together to explore options for rescheduling Soccerama and potentially extending the In-House season so we can make up some of the time weโve lost. We are committed to doing everything we can to give our players the opportunity to enjoy as much of the season as possible.
We will continue communicating with the Town and will keep everyone updated as we work through the details. We will let you know as soon as we have more information regarding the fields, rescheduling, and the remainder of the In-House season.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding. We know this situation is frustrating for everyone, and we sincerely appreciate your support as we work through circumstances that are largely outside of the Clubโs control.
Most importantly, we hope everyone is staying safe and doing well during the ongoing power outages and challenging conditions.
Thank you for being part of the Schererville Soccer Club family!
Sincerely,
Schererville Soccer Club Board
