Many people have asked us why this No Kings is different. This is why.
The original No Kings protest in June 2025, and its follow-up events in October 2025 and March 2026, were designed as statements of oppositional force against the Trump regime: ICE, DOGE, OBBBA, Epstein, Iran, and a hundred more moral atrocities. These were important events for those moments. If you were there, you understand.
We are in a different moment. Of course, Trump hasn't slowed down. The crazy has only escalated. What's different is that the American public is on the precipice of delivering a reckoning with our greatest tool of collective power: the vote.
If you've been following Savannah Indivisible in 2026, first of all, thank you. Second, you'll notice we've been very clear about shifting our priorities from organizing *vocal* opposition to organizing *voting* opposition. Reclaiming political power is right on our homepage.
Others see it the same way. The national organizers of No Kings *specifically asked* organizers everywhere in the U.S. to prioritize get-out-the-vote activities, NOT protests. We are honoring this because we agree.
Savannah is fortunate to be home to Savannah State University, an HBCU. Savannah is also fortunate to host Savannah State's annual homecoming parade, one of our largest collective gatherings all year outside St Patrick's Day. That parade lands on October 17, the same day as No Kings.
What better way to engage the community than support one of its most celebrated parades?
So here's the plan:
- We need 60 people to march in the Savannah State homecoming parade. You get a free t-shirt, you get a sign, and you get 59 comrades marching alongside. Just bring good shoes and a bottle of water.
- We need about 30 people to hand out early voting literature within a few block radius. This is best if you want to engage at a more personal level.
- We need everyone else to just show up at the parade and enjoy the moment with friends and neighbors.
Our only message: vote early! That's it. Nonpartisan by design because voting early is the best means to ensure a free, democratic election.

We're in the home stretch of this election season. We don't know what's going to happen on November 4. We may have more protests yet before the end of the year depending on how badly Trump tries to further subvert democracy. Stay tuned. But in the meantime, let's march with joy.
