Skidmore's Environmental Action Club is a group of students committed to promoting sustainability initiatives on campus. We work with other clubs and organizations on campus to raise awareness and accomplish our sustainability goals, in several areas, including transportation, waste management, and food. Some current initiatives include working with

Skidmore Compost, and pushing the college to divest from fossil fuel companies. We are open to any new ideas that new members might have, and try to incorporate everyone's different environmental interests in what we do! Useful links:

NEW YORK’S CLIMATE LAW IS UNDER ATTACK! Major rollbacks from Gov. Hochul threaten the CLCPA (Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act), which supports clean, affordable, renewable energy. While we could not go to this amazing event, we highly encourage people to get involved. PLEASE take 1-2 minutes to contact Assembly Member Carrie Woerner (NYS representative for Saratoga) at 518-584-5404! You can fill out the comment form on her website (https://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/Carrie-Woerner/contact/). If you do not know what to say, no worries! Just copy and paste this message into the form:

Stay Strong! No changes to the Climate Law
No negotiations behind closed doors in the budget process with the Governor.
Enforce and fully fund the CLCPA climate law with detailed plans for state agency action
​ No new fossil fuel projects, shut down existing fossil fuel infrastructure and no subsidies to the fossil fuel industry
​ Accelerate the transition to locally built, community-powered renewable energy with quality union jobs for workers
​ No funding for new nuclear reactors and no false solutions such as carbon capture, renewable “natural” gas and biofuels
​ Help low- and moderate-income communities and communities of color transition to renewable energy and address the harms to their communities caused by fossil fuels.

This Earth Day, we want to acknowledge the unprecedented challenges to environmental protection that our country (and planet) face. The Trump administration has replaced environmental justice and climate change language with messages of American independence. Funding for climate research has been frozen. Federal employees have been forced to leave their jobs. Infrastructure for the ESA and Mammal Protection Acts have been blocked. This deliberate attempt to undermine climate resilience and social justice is violent, offensive, dangerous, and heartbreaking. But that does not mean we are forced to submit. As policies shift, our commitment and love for Earth remains unshaken. Together, with a passion for environmental change and social justice, we can build a resilient community of environmental advocates who react, resist, and unite. Whether it be here at Skidmore, or out in the larger world, do something today to give the Earth back to herself.
