Our atlanta collection site, in partnership with , now has a new jib crane! This piece of equipment helps our interns recycle our shells directly into the trailers headed to the coast!

More shells recycled equals more ecosystem services provided, such as water filtration, providing habitat for other species, shoreline protection and increased resiliency.

Shell to Shore is excited to announce our participation in the Georgia SASMI Implementation Team (GSIT), as led by The Georgia Conservancy

The South Atlantic Salt Marsh Initiative (SASMI) is a voluntary coalition across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina that aims to bring together government agencies, researchers, community leaders, and non-governmental organizations to protect and restore the health and functions of existing salt marshes, and conserve marsh migration corridors and remove or retrofit barriers to ensure salt marshes can shift as sea levels rise.

Georgia has an estimated 368,000 acres of salt marsh across our coastline, which makes up more than a third of the connected marsh habitat corridor along the coast of the southeastern United States. However, marsh habitats in Georgia are facing severe threats of drowning due to sea level rise.

The Georgia Conservancy is leading the Georgia SASMI Implementation Team (GSIT), a team of 20+ statewide subject matter experts in restoration, conservation, research, and management of salt marsh resources.

It takes a village!

ShellFest 5 wouldn’t have been possible without our unbelievably outstanding cast of volunteers, vendors, musicians, family and friends, who, year in and out, show up and help us through the best oyster party in Georgia! Don’t look now, but ShellFest might just be building the bet community of folks committed to oyster recycling and coastal restoration out there!

We LOVE our team! Thank’s y’all!
