We strive to offer unique solutions to aid in the conservation and the promotion of the general welfare of all canids

The JABCECC is a non-profit (501c3) organization located in San Diego, CA. We are focused on improving the lives of canids and humans worldwide by developing novel programs that use the power of canids to heal human conditions. Through interactive educational events with our animal ambassadors, we will give a voice to their wild counterparts that are in need of conservation efforts directed at improving their survival and/or quality of life. We will drive a robust understanding of the effectiveness of programs currently out there, by conducting controlled studies where needed.

Usually it is Anya Besha jumping on backs, nibbling and peeing on your head… Val has gotten into the game and appears very smitten with Matthew! Matthew’s primary role as a volunteer is supporting the emotional welfare of the foxes!! He is their emotional support human!! With great power comes great responsibility!
Who wants to add Emotional Support Human for foxes on their resume?

Friday Chat w/Vlad

Hey, it’s Vlad..coming to you from the Judith A. Bassett Canid Education and Conservation Center.

It recently occurred to me that it has been quite a while since I’ve answered my fan mail. I know this because when I got up this morning I tripped over numerous mail bags and almost spilled my cappuccino. Today I have a special guest, who has agreed to help me answer the mail, Wilson the coyote.

Our first letter comes from Susan in Coolville Ohio. Dear Vlad, why do foxes have such beautiful bushy tails?

Excellent question, Susan. Our tails provide balance, warmth, and an irresistible touch of elegance.

You may want to let her know that coyotes have most excellent tails as well Vlad. Yes they do Wilson, but that’s really like comparing freshly shined Prada boots with a pair of grimy Crocs.

Next, Kevin asks, Are coyotes really as clever as people say?

Why don’t you take this one Wilson. Sure thing Vlad. Absolutely Kevin. We’re intelligent, adaptable, and can survive almost anywhere.”

And yet I’ve never seen you order a pizza Wilson. Have you Vlad?? I have people for that.

Finally, Margaret from Monkeys Eyebrow Kentucky asks, If a fox and a coyote competed in a battle of intelligence, who would win?”

I’ve got this one Vlad. Margret, while foxes are certainly intelligent, their intellect pales in comparison to that of coyotes. I beg to differ Wilson. Based on what Vlad? I’ll put it this way…One of us has the mental horsepower to be an internationally beloved internet personality, and one of us is just appearing on the show of an internationally beloved Internet personality.

Can I leave now Vlad? Almost Wilson, I just need to wrap things up.

They will grow out of it when they reach 8…. So we were told… Life with a New Guinea Singing dog…. Never ending destruction! Starting a gofund me for a new couch- on our 4th!

More fun and shenanigans with The “babies” - these 4 from our 2026 rescue are still@super spunky and all sorts of play! Evenings on the weekends at the center are some of our favorite times. When we sit there as a team spending time just being around the animals. It’s pure magic!

Sometimes we forget how blessed we are to be able to spend our lives surrounded by foxes, jackals, wolves, dogs, and coyotes. What a wild experience!!

Three babies in the cue for rescue! Can we do it? Watch us!

Little Miss Millie getting some much needed play time with humans. The interesting thing about the Russian domesticated foxes is they need a very specific level of human interaction and love. Not as much as a dog, but more than a cat! If they don’t get their quota, they will become very needy and mischievous- we need more volunteers who are able to engage and provide them the enrichment they need- but our volunteer program is very strict and we require a commitment of 2 days a month and 6 months for any animal engagement. You not only have to earn our trust, but earn theirs!

We have not released 2027 experience dates yet! So if you are looking to hook something in the new year- stay tuned… release date is coming soon- and we will be offering very limited experiences next year- so make sure you are following to secure a spot next year!
