Some days start with coffee.
Some with exercise.
Others with friends, fun, or time outdoors.

This past month, we found all five, and planted 1,700 trees along the way 🌲

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Reforestation Saturdays on Volcan Mountain! Your time, energy, and effort is helping to bring back a unique and historic forest. We can’t wait to watch these seedlings grow into a heathy, resilient habitat, for all species to enjoy, for generations to come.

Our 2026 planting season may be finished, but Stewardship Saturdays continue with upcoming maintenance and monitoring efforts. The roots are down—now we keep growing 🌱

Another incredible outing with VMF’s Julian Young Birders’ Club. This morning we ventured along the Kelly Ditch and Fern Trails in William Heise County Park.

We were shocked by the number of bird species there were. We saw (and heard) wrentits, acorn woodpeckers, spotted towhees, scrub jays, ravens, crows, violet-green swallows, black-headed grosbeaks, turkeys, mountain chickadees, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks, yellow-rumped warblers, Bewick’s wrens, lesser goldfinches, American goldfinches, song sparrows, and a hooded oriole.

Of course we couldn’t help but to splash cool creek water on faces just before making our way back.

Beautiful day!

As part of our commitment to keeping Volcan Mountain healthy, wild, and resilient, we’re planting native conifer seedlings on our Sky Island habitat a mile in the sky.

We’re halfway to our planting goal for this year, but with the limited rainfall and high temperatures we’ve been experiencing, we need to help these trees take root as soon as possible. This Saturday, April 4th, and next Saturday, April 11th, we’re holding Stewardship & Restoration events where you can learn about our place-based planting technique and make a lasting contribution to this unique montane forest.

We’d love you to join us for a beautiful day on the mountain, and are invited afterwards for a refreshing beverage with our friends at ! Sign-up by visiting the calendar on our website, and feel free to reach out over DM with any additional questions. We hope to see you there!
