In the Washington Post, NAMI’s chief advocacy officer Hannah Wesolowski explains why new Medicaid work requirements may cause people to lose coverage when they need it the most, reflecting a critical misunderstanding of mental illness:
"For many people with mental illness and other conditions, Medicaid is what makes work and independence possible," Wesolowski says. "Adding new barriers risks undermining the self-sufficiency these requirements aim to promote."

The new facility, at the county’s Los Guilicos campus, will include eight residential beds for adolescents requiring drug use treatment and six residential beds for those who need crisis treatment, officials said. The facility will also include outpatient substance use treatment for kids and young adults ages 12 to 25, as well as individual group and family counseling spaces.

Sonoma County crews were beginning work this week on a new mental health and substance use disorder facility for local youth, advancing a project meant to reduce reliance on out-of-county facilities.
