MYTH: All armadillos have Hansen’s disease, AKA leprosy! ** BUSTED! **

** Humans likely introduced leprosy to armadillos centuries ago, NOT the other way around!

** About 95% of humans are naturally resistant to the disease. Only 15% of armadillos are believed to have it. Low odds, huh?!

**Transmission from armadillos is rare. Risk is associated with direct contact, particularly handling, butchering, or preparing infected armadillos for food.

**The disease is curable with antibiotics! Leprosy does NOT cause your fingers and toes to simply fall off! You won’t be banished to isolated islands.

Our key take away? Don’t eat raw creatures. Don’t pet wild s**t. Take a picture instead. Wash your hands you filthy human!

🦝 Update on our litter of six! These little ones have been divided into groups of three to prevent overcrowding. And yes, they have blankets, stuffed animals, and hammocks! 😂
They’ll remain in quarantine for three weeks before moving to a larger enclosure while completing their vaccinations. Once fully vaccinated, they’ll transition to our large outdoor pre-release enclosures.
🍼 They had no interest in formula and went straight for the dog kibble, which is exactly what we prefer! Keeping them wild and encouraging natural behaviors is always the goal.

So far this season we’ve had 410 animals come in to our care‼️ We’ve been pretty busy, to say the least. Luckily things have started to slow down. (Knocks on wood!) 😋 ❤️We are grateful for our rescue friends that stepped in to take some of the overflow!

Another little flying squirrel came into the rescue yesterday. Which will make this our third flyer currently in our care. Look at that little face!

🦝A litter of 6 came in today. They all weigh any where from 500-600g. They are slightly dehydrated, but overall seem to be healthy. We’re going to get these guys hydrated, dewormed and set up in the quarantine area. Which is where they will stay for the next three weeks. Once they pass the quarantine stage and have had all of their vaccines, they are able to go to the outdoor pre-release enclosure 
** They arrived in these crates. They were moved to cages with hammocks, etc.. once they were dewormed & vaccinated. **
