Stop by on Nov 3 Voting Day to pick up these limited edition ornaments commemorating America's 250th birthday! The money raised by this fundraiser and all donations will help restore the Sandown Train Depot.

Sandown Depot Museum is CLOSED to visitors for the winter season and will reopen next spring.

The Sandown Historical Society committee would like to thank the many patrons who visited our museum this past season. Your positive feedback regarding the museum’s recent improvements and your financial support are very much appreciated!

Stay tuned….our committee will be working behind the scenes this winter and will keep our community up to date on our efforts, including plans to restore the depot building exterior!

Did you know the Sandown Train Depot is a National Historic Landmark?
This fall, we're continuing our fundraising to restore it to its former glory. Stop by on Saturday at our booth at Oktoberfest to pick up your Sandown Merch, just in time for the holiday season!

The Depot will still be open regular hours as well for any visitors who want to stop by! We have Ornaments there as well!

Yesterday the Sandown Historical Society recognized Sandown’s oldest resident, Dottie Enos, at a ceremony held during a 60+ Club meeting in which friends and family had gathered. Tim Robinson, SHS President, provided the remarks and Sue Dupouy presented the cane to Dottie.
In 2003, Dottie and her husband Tony moved to Sandown and joined the 60+ Club. Additionally, Dottie was an active member of the Friends of the Library for many years.

About the Boston Post Cane
The tradition of awarding the Boston Post Cane to a town’s oldest resident began in 1909, when Boston Post owner Edwin Grozier dreamed up the idea as a publicity stunt for their newspaper.
The newspaper distributed canes to 700 canes in the Post’s circulation area of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. The canes were made from ebony and a 14-karat engraved gold k**b topped the cane.
Sandown’s original Boston Post Cane has been lost to history. However, in 2016 the Sandown Historical Society, in conjunction with the town’s Old Home Days Committee, revised the tradition of the “cane” and had a duplicate made, though the materials used differ from the original construction.
That year, Sandown’s Boston Post Cane was awarded to the oldest living full-time resident, Lloyd Lessard.
