What a beautiful day celebrating Día de los Mu***os! 💀🌼 Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for an afternoon filled with culture, tradition, and community! ❤️ From the vibrant folklórico dancing and cultural performances to the beautiful altars, delicious food, local vendors, crafts, and classic cars, it was wonderful to see our community come together to honor loved ones and celebrate this meaningful tradition.
A special thank-you to our performers, vendors, community partners, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this celebration possible! 🌼🕯️Here’s to keeping traditions alive and bringing our community closer together. ❤️💛🧡

🏫 🚔 School is back in full swing, which means pick-ups and drop-offs, kids walking our neighborhoods, after-school events, student drivers, etc... So we thought this is a great time to talk about school safety.

It was a great night for us and all our PAL's, as The City of San Mateo City Council presented two proclamations to PAL and friends.

The first was for our San Mateo Police Cadet Post 211 – National Competition Recognition.In 2026, Post 211 continued to distinguish itself as an outstanding youth leadership and law enforcement training program, representing the San Mateo Police Department and the City of San Mateo at competitions locally and across the country.

In June, four San Mateo Cadets traveled across the country to compete in the 2nd Annual Nassau County Law Enforcement Exploring Invitational in New York, hosted by the Nassau County Police Department at the David S. Mack Center for Training and Intelligence. The competition brought together more than 12 Explorer and Cadet Posts representing local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

During the three-day competition, Cadets were challenged in 14 realistic law enforcement scenarios. As the only team representing California, San Mateo's Cadets achieved remarkable results. Post 211 earned 1st Place in Crisis Negotiation, Traffic Accident Investigation, and Individual Physical Agility; 2nd Place in Force Options; and 3rd Place in Active Shooter and Traffic Stop. Their six awards were an impressive accomplishment against a highly competitive field and reflected the preparation, professionalism, and teamwork of the Cadets.

The second proclamation was in recognition of the Wolverines Rugby Club for their championship and San Mateo PAL Partnership.

In 2026, the Wolverines Rugby Club celebrated an exceptional season marked by championship success, academic achievement, and a growing commitment to the San Mateo community. The Boys High School team captured the North American Invitational Championship, while the Girls High School team earned the High School Girls National Championship – Tier 2, representing significant accomplishments for the club and its student-athletes.

Building upon that commitment to academic success and youth development, the Wolverines have formed a new partnership with the San Mateo Police Activities League to provide additional support and opportunities for local youth. Beginning in October 2026, the Wolverines and PAL will offer a homework and tutoring program at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center on rugby training days, giving student-athletes access to academic assistance before and after practice. The partnership will also connect more than 350 youth participating in the Wolverines program with PAL and its broader network of youth programs, mentorship, resources, and community opportunities.

Through this partnership, San Mateo PAL and the Wolverines share a commitment to helping young people succeed not only as athletes, but also as students, leaders, and active members of their community.

Congratulations to both programs. We are excited and honored to be able to provide our San Mateo youth with opportunities to further their growth.
