Girl Scout Troop 30851 making a difference!
Back-to-school support for the kiddos at our shelter : )

Local Girl Scouts are learning that the money they raise through their hard work can do so much more than fund troop activities. Their efforts can make a real difference in the lives of women and children at local homeless shelters too!

Using funds raised through Girl Scout Cookie sales and the “Fall Nuts & Magazines fundraiser” Troop 30851 partnered with Building Futures in May 2026 to help provide back-to-school clothing for children receiving our services.

The girls spent a special shopping trip at a Hesperian/San Leandro clothing store, picking out new school outfits for the children we serve. Each scout carefully considered what each student might need and enjoyed the opportunity to shop with a purpose—knowing that their choices would help another child feel confident and ready for the new school year.

This was more than a shopping trip. It was a chance for the girls to see firsthand the impact of their fundraising efforts and to experience the joy of giving back to their community. From selling cookies and magazines to shopping for kids in need, Troop 30851 is putting the Girl Scout spirit into action—learning that when we work together, we can make a difference.

We are grateful to these Girl Scouts for turning their hard work into kindness, generosity, and a brighter start to the school year for others!

Girl Scout cookies helping the women and children at our family shelters!

Cookie sales don’t just satisfy a sweet tooth, they can help support essential services 365 days a year.

A huge thank you to Girl Scout Troop 30159, who raised $250 through cookie sales and tabling in San Leandro and Castro Valley to provide grassroots support for Building Futures’ homeless, domestic violence, and housing services.

We are so grateful for your thoughtfulness, generosity, and heart for our community. Thank you, Troop 30159, for turning cookie sales into meaningful support for local families and individuals!

Food is love made visible! A huge thank you to our wonderful Dinner Donors, like Ms. Lew, who prepare and deliver meals for the women and children staying in Building Futures’ shelters. Your generosity brings comfort, care, and a home-cooked meal to the table.

Ms. Lew cooked 45 pieces of baked chicken legs, 3 half-pans of macaroni & cheese, tossed green salad, egg salad, Korean broccoli salad, watermelon, chocolate zucchini cake, mango juice, and even brought milk and blueberry muffins for breakfast tomorrow!

We still need Dinner Donors! Gather your family, friends, coworkers, faith group, or community group and provide a meal for the 25 women and children who reside in each of the family shelters in Alameda and San Leandro. www.bfwc.org/volunteer

Food is love—and we’re so grateful to everyone who helps us serve it.
