CAT Training: Hear us roar!

Today, at UNAC/UHCP Headquarters, we hosted Contract Action Team Training. Members of the Executive Team joined affiliate CAT members for a powerful morning of connection and strategy. UPSC pharmacists took time out to join in for a solidarity moment.

These peer leaders shared their experiences on the frontlines, and together the group talked vision for the union — what it takes to organize, mobilize, and win a strong contract.

Communication networks: built. Momentum: growing. 💪💪🏼💪🏿

This week, the UNAC/UHCP sponsored bills AB2066 & AB2301 have passed in the CA State Legislature. Our members’ lobby visits and testimony at each stage have been invaluable in getting us this far.

Both bills now head to the Governor’s desk for signature.

A gathering of stewards. A gathering of service and strength.

In San Diego, UNAC/UHCP President Charmaine S. Morales, RN, heard from our member leaders who show up every day for their coworkers in our independent affiliates.

Their stories were a reminder of what union power looks like: standing up for what's right, fighting for fairness, and making sure every member knows they're not alone.

That's solidarity in action. ✊

UNAC/UHCP made a strong impact at the AFSCME Convention in Chicago!

Our members earned national recognition for PEOPLE/COPE—ranking #4 in total contributions, #10 in contributions per member, and #7 in MVP-level contributors among large AFSCME locals.

UNAC/UHCP members also took the convention stage, with Brian Nitta, PT, sharing lessons from the front lines of striking and Sophia Pak, PharmD, highlighting the critical role of union stewards.

UNAC/UHCP President and AFSCME International Vice President Charmaine S. Morales, RN, UNAC/UHCP Executive Secretary Liz Hawkins, RN, and Sophia presented resolutions on the convention floor. Our delegation, as part of NUHHCE 1199, joined AFSCME members nationwide in honoring outgoing President Lee Saunders for his years of service.

AFSCME International President Patrick Moran and AFSCME International Secretary-Treasurer Nicole Pollard were elected. Charmaine also participated in the nominating process for Nicole.

Our delegates leave Chicago proud, energized, and ready to keep building power for healthcare professionals, our patients, and working people everywhere.

Another powerful day of solidarity, democracy, and union power at the AFSCME Convention!

Our UNAC/UHCP and NUHHCE delegates were on the convention floor representing our members, participating in the important work of our union, and standing alongside AFSCME members from across the country. From speaking on resolutions and casting votes to hearing from labor leaders, our UNAC/UHCP leaders and members reminded us what it means to have a strong voice in the labor movement.

🎉 Congratulations to Patrick Moran and Nicole Pollard on their election as AFSCME International President and International Secretary-Treasurer! We congratulate them on this important moment and look forward to the next chapter for AFSCME and its members.

AFSCME STRONG. BUILT FOR THIS MOMENT! 💚💪

Day 3 at the 2026 AFSCME Convention brought plenty of opportunities for UNAC/UHCP members and leaders to speak up, learn, and show solidarity.

Executive Secretary Elizabeth Hawkins and Pharmacist Sophia Pak each took to the convention floor to speak in support of resolutions, and Sophia also led a Steward 101 workshop for union leaders from across the country.

After convention wrapped up for the day, UNAC/UHCP members joined union siblings in rallying in support of Shedd Aquarium workers.

💡 KPCSP: Did You Know?

Your contract is delivering real dollars to KPCSP members.

Under the new agreement, shift differentials have increased for members working evenings and nights:

🌆 Evening differential: $2.75/hr → $3.00/hr
🌙 Night differential: $4.50/hr → $6.50/hr

For a full-time employee, that night shift increase can add up to approximately $4,000 more each year.

Take a moment to review your paycheck and make sure the correct differential is being applied. If you have questions or notice an issue, reach out to your steward, union officer, or UNAC/UHCP representative.

📢 Recent Union Wins Across Our Affiliates

✅ SPNN: We successfully resolved 5 grievances and 2 Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges after Sharp Healthcare sent 15 RNs home without pay for wearing UNAC/UHCP insignia in patient care areas and refusing to remove it.

Settlement Highlights:
• 192.72 hours of pay reimbursed to affected nurses
• All discipline removed from personnel files
• The Union preserved its right to file future grievances or ULPs if similar issues arise

✅ UNHCEH: We settled a grievance that was headed to arbitration involving a Maui Health System RN with two years of service who was terminated for allegedly using excessive force.

Settlement Highlights:
• RN to receive $55,000
• Rehire eligibility restored at Kaiser facilities outside of Maui

✅ UTNC: Kaiser violated contract language requiring employees assigned higher-classification duties to receive higher-classification pay.

Settlement Highlights:
• 7 Speech-Language Pathologists affected
• Total settlement: $68,668.50
• Largest individual recovery: $27,573.60

✅ KPRNA: A Charge RN who received a Level 4 discipline lost her Charge RN duties and pay.

Settlement Highlights:
• Full back pay awarded for the difference between Charge RN and RN pay from the expiration of the Level 4 discipline until she secured a Charge position through the application process
• Member received more than $27,000 in back pay

💪 These victories demonstrate the power of collective action, contract enforcement, and strong union representation. When members' rights are challenged, we fight to make them whole.
