We lift up refugee voices and build leadership in communities to increase civic engagement and create an inclusive civil society. At PANA, we believe to truly address the most pressing needs of refugees, we must authentically engage the community to have a voice in the electoral and public policies that affect their lives. Today, City Council passed a resolution recognizing and uplifting the Somali-American community, and standing firmly against racist rhetoric, harassment, filming, and stalking directed at Somali Americans, and specifically Somali childcare providers.

A special thank you to Council Member Sean Elo Rivera ( Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera ) for bringing this resolution forward.

Join us for a special joint fundraiser “Power Shift: Arts + Advocacy From City Heights” at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla on Thursday, June 25, from 5–8 pm.

We’re teaming up with community partners to host a Candidate Forum for San Diego City Council District 8, led by League of Women Voters of San Diego. Come hear directly from the candidates, get clear on the issues that matter to our communities, and leave feeling informed and ready for what’s ahead. NEW POLL: 2 in 3 CA voters believe our democracy is under attack, according to a Berkeley/IGS survey reported in the LA Times today. By overwhelming margins, voters voice support for stronger state laws to protect voting rights.

PANA’s proud to join the California Democracy Partnership in supporting the CA Voting Rights Act (CVRA) of 2026 to protect and strengthen our democracy.

The CVRA of 2026 will:
• Increase oversight of jurisdictions with a history of voter discrimination
• Enable more effective legal challenges to voter suppression
• Expand access to translated voting materials and language assistance
• Address vote dilution and accelerate remedies
• Strengthen legal protections for voters
