🎃👻 Spooky season has officially begun! 👻🎃

Our Making Changes students got to enjoy a night out at Balboa Park’s Haunted Trail! 😱 From screams and scares to lots of laughs, they definitely had a night to remember!

Our students are getting into the Halloween spirit a little early this year, and what better way to kick it off than with a scary adventure together? 🎃🕸️👻

We hope everyone had an amazing time! 🧡🖤

🎉 Welcome Making Changes Students! 🎉

We officially kicked off a new school year with our Making Changes students! 💙⭐ It was great to see so many new faces, along with some of our returning students.

We spent our first day reviewing program rules and expectations, hearing from our new STAR/PAL officer, Officer Brobst with the San Diego Police Department, got to meet our interns, and staff. Our students also had the opportunity to introduce themselves, share a little about who they are, and start getting to know one another.

We ended our day with a special celebration for all of our September birthdays! 🎂🥳

We are so excited for everything we have planned this year and can’t wait to see our students learn, grow, build new friendships, and make lasting memories.

✨ What an amazing way to kick off our We Can Program! 💙⭐

We were excited to welcome our We Can students from San Diego and El Cajon as we officially began another great year of programming!

Our San Diego students spent time getting to know one another, reviewing important safety procedures including fire drills and active shooter protocols, and connecting with our law enforcement officers. Officers had the opportunity to sit down, talk with the students, and begin building meaningful relationships. 💙👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

We also had a very sweet surprise when one of our Making Changes Alumni stopped by with cupcakes to celebrate Ms. Melissa’s birthday with the students! 🧁🎉 It was such a thoughtful moment and a wonderful reminder of the relationships that continue even after students complete the program.

In El Cajon, we welcomed our students and parents, registered new participants, completed surveys, and ended the day with an incredible tour of the police department! Students got a behind-the-scenes look at different areas of the department, including the gym, holding cells, police vehicles, and one of the biggest highlights the SWAT vehicle! 🚔

We are so excited for what’s ahead for our We Can students. This was only the beginning, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to start! ⭐💙

✨ What a beautiful night at Couture For A Cause! ✨

What a beautiful and memorable evening! We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of Couture for a Cause and to celebrate a night filled with community, connection, and impact. 💙⭐

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was hearing from Making Changes alumnus J. De Dios Guzman. J. first joined the Making Changes program looking to complete community service hours, but his involvement became so much more. Even after graduating from the program, he has continued to consistently give back and volunteer with STAR/PAL.

J. shared how STAR/PAL made an impact on his life, how welcomed he felt when he joined the program, and the difference his mentor, M. Lucero, made along the way, creating a lasting difference in his journey. Seeing our students grow, stay connected, and return to give back to their community is exactly why this work is so meaningful. 💫

We also had the opportunity to hear from our CEO about STAR/PAL’s continued growth and how the ongoing support and consistency of our community help make our programs possible.

And, of course, we ended the evening in style as everyone took to the catwalk! 👠✨

Thank you to everyone who made Couture for a Cause such a special night and for continuing to support STAR/PAL and the youth we serve.

⚽️💙 Building Connections Through Sports! 💙⚽️
STAR/PAL had an amazing time with 50+ students from Kimball Elementary for a fun-filled soccer clinic with officers from the National City Police Department! 👮‍♂️⚽️
Students had the opportunity to participate in different soccer drills alongside officers from trying to score a goal against an officer, to taking on a 2-v-1 challenge, receiving passes from officers, and finishing with a shot on goal! 🥅⭐
It was a great day filled with teamwork, smiles, encouragement, and positive interactions between our youth and local law enforcement.
To wrap up the clinic, each student received a STAR/PAL wristband and a fruit snack! ⭐️
A huge thank you to the National City Police Department officers who volunteered their time to connect with our students and make the experience so memorable. 💙

🎉 What a day! 🎉
Today’s event was a HUGE hit! We had over 150 families come out to enjoy the afternoon, meet the StarPal staff, connect with our community, and spend some time with the El Cajon Police Officers. 💙
The kids had a blast getting police stickers, meeting officers, and even taking on the officers in a push-up challenge! 💪🚔
And, of course… the kids won! 🤭😂🏆
To top it all off, everyone got to enjoy some FREE frozen yogurt! 🍦
A huge THANK YOU to Menchies and everyone who came out, supported the event, and helped make today such a memorable afternoon for our families. We’re so grateful for our amazing community and for the El Cajon Police Department for joining us and making it such a fun day! 💙

🎉 What a SUCCESSFUL Annual Open House! 🎉
Today was filled with smiles, excitement, connection, and so much support from our amazing students and families! 💙
We were so happy to welcome everyone who came out to meet our staff, ask questions, learn more, and be part of such a special day. Our students and families also enjoyed taking home some fun goodies, including makeup, lunch tote bags, water bottles, and so much more! 🎁✨
And, of course, our students had a blast enjoying some fun in the game truck! 🎮🙌
A HUGE thank you to all of our parents and families for showing up and showing your support. Your involvement means so much to us, and it was wonderful seeing all of us come together.

⭐ Meet STAR/PAL Officer Walt Brobst! ⭐

Born and raised in San Diego County, Officer Walt Brobst has a passion for serving his community and investing in the next generation. His background in military service, law enforcement, pastoral ministry, coaching, and mentoring has shaped his commitment to building meaningful relationships with youth.

Walt served in the Navy and Air Force Reserve before beginning his law enforcement career with the Riverside Sheriff’s Department and San Diego Police Department. He has also spent many years serving and mentoring youth through ministry and pastoral leadership.

After supporting STAR/PAL for two summers, including facilitating Let’s Be Pals, Walt officially joined the STAR/PAL team full time as an officer in 2026! 💙⭐

Through STAR/PAL, Walt hopes to help young people build character, confidence, resilience, and leadership while creating positive relationships between youth and law enforcement. His approach is simple: listen first, build trust, encourage growth, and walk alongside young people.

Walt is also a proud husband and father of five and credits his family’s love and support as his greatest source of inspiration.

Today at Logan Memorial Park, we were proud to serve over 150 families from communities across San Diego through our food distribution. Together, we provided pantry staples like tuna, tofu, oatmeal, rice, and beans, along with fresh produce including potatoes, plums, carrots, and peppers. Thank you to our incredible volunteers, partners, and supporters who make this work possible. Every bag shared is a step toward a healthier, stronger community. 💚🥕🍑

🎒📚 Back to School, Back to Making a Difference! 📚🎒
What better way to kick off the first day of school than with a little extra support, excitement, and community spirit! ❤️
We were proud to partner with San Diego County Probation for a special Back to School Event at Central Elementary, where we welcomed students back with backpacks filled with school essentials and provided teachers with classroom supplies to help them start the new school year prepared.
And of course, no back-to-school celebration would be complete without McGruff the Crime Dog! 🐾 Our students absolutely loved meeting McGruff and celebrating the start of a brand-new school year with a big smile.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to support our students, teachers, and school community. Here’s to a safe, successful, and amazing school year ahead! 🎓✏️📓
