Wesley House Student Residence

Wesley House Student Residence Our mission is to provide affordable housing and support services for college students so they may succeed in college while facing life challenges.

Wesley House is currently the only organization providing affordable, below market rate housing and wrap-around services, exclusively serving low-income and systemically marginalized college students in San Diego County. Our student residents experience additional challenges such as aging out of foster care, being formerly incarcerated, experiencing homelessness, and/or being the first generation

in their family to attend college. It is our goal as an organization to create parity in the college experience.

"Why do students need Wesley House to help them get benefits? Can't they do that on their own?"

We've been asked this question. This great article by Annie Lowrey at The Atlantic does a beautiful job of demystifying the complexities and barriers our clients face when they try to access programs like CalFresh/SNAP and Medi-Cal/MediCaid.

The government’s onerous rules impose a burdensome tax on time.

Did you know that 3 out of 5 college students experience hunger or housing insecurity? At Wesley House Student Residence, we believe no student should have to choose between putting food on the table and pursuing their college degree.

As the only organization in San Diego County providing affordable supportive housing for low-income college students, Wesley House is breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering students to reach the finish line.

Here’s how Wesley House makes an impact every day:

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego and a handful of its community members to Wesley House last week for a tour and conversation about how we can best support low-income students pursuing higher education. Thank you for sharing your valuable time with us!

We do our work best when we do it as a community. Our students know that so many amazing people and organizations are cheering them on, and it makes all the difference. If you are interested in learning more about us, please visit sdwesleyhouse.org.

Did you know that the Big Beautiful Bill put in place caps on student loans? Experts suspected it would deter lower-income students from pursuing advanced degrees. That is exactly what looks to be happening.

CNN reports:

President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending cuts package will make it harder for aspiring doctors to finance their education amid a growing physician shortage.
