A Pastoral Statement on Antisemitic Acts in our Community...

Dear people of St. Dunstan’s,
I was heartbroken to learn on the news this afternoon that antisemitic flyers were distributed throughout our local community of San Diego here in the Del Cerro and San Carlos neighborhoods. I further learned that this is one of several related incidents in recent weeks in our local area. This is an important time to speak out against these acts and to state clearly and unequivocally that we as a faith community decry such acts of hatred and antisemitism and that we stand in solidarity with our local Jewish communities as they face these hateful, harmful, and hurtful messages.

As people of faith, we take joy being in partnership with members of the interfaith community here in San Diego and we celebrate the presence of the Jewish community in our midst.

These acts are part, sadly, of a rising tide of hate and antisemitism which should be cause for serious concern to us all. These messages of hatred can and do lead to violence and make all of us less safe. In stark contrast, we stand on the side of love and renounce all forms of bigotry, hatred, and antisemitism. And I want to encourage each of us, as people of faith, to renew our commitment to solidarity and to stand and speak out against all forms of antisemitism. Please join me in praying for an end to hatred and violence.

Faithfully yours,

The Rev. D. Rebecca Hansen
Rector, St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, San Diego
