Small Steps For Change Our story began with one little girl, but today our sponsored students and homework clubs support over 50 children in one small colony in Baja California.

We empower children and families in Baja California through education, nutrition, and animal welfare programs, creating safe spaces to learn, grow, and build brighter futures while expanding access, equity, and community support. Our efforts are centered just 30 miles from downtown San Diego, CA. Our focus is education, but not just in the classroom. We know that academics combined with character

development and community service raises up capable, ethical, and altruistic young people eager to help better their families and communities. Our educational programs also includes nutrition, growing your own food and animal education, specifically sterilization, neglect and abuse.

Some of the most important work we do doesn’t always look like work.

Sometimes it looks like laughter, curiosity, messy experiments, and kids getting excited about discovering how the world works.

When we opened our homework clubs, we didn’t just want to help children complete assignments. We wanted to create a place where learning is fun, where curiosity is encouraged, and where children can dream a little bigger than they did yesterday.

This day was all about science, but the lesson was bigger than that. Every activity, every question, every moment of wonder is another small step toward building confidence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.

We’re sticking to the plan, creating opportunities, inspiring curiosity, and investing in children one small step at a time.

Because education isn’t just about preparing kids for tests. It’s about preparing them for life. ❤️

This sweet girl was found wandering the streets near our community center, in heartbreaking condition. She was severely malnourished, covered in ticks, and clearly had been surviving far too long without the care every animal deserves.

Our work often puts us face-to-face with difficult realities, and in moments like this, walking away simply isn’t an option. Our Program Director stepped in, bringing her to safety, caring for her, nourishing her, and staying committed to her recovery until she was healthy enough to be sterilized. But his care didn’t stop there. He’s also been working to train and socialize her, helping her learn what safety, trust, and love look like.

And just look at her now. 💛

Healthy. Safe. Thriving.

This is the complicated part of our work, the part that can be emotionally heavy, unpredictable, and often unseen, but it’s also one of the most rewarding. Because sometimes change looks like a child receiving support in the classroom… and sometimes it looks like an animal being given a second chance at life.

This is why animal welfare remains one of our community goals, because compassion, responsibility, and care for all living beings help create healthier communities.

Healthy smiles start with healthy habits 🦷✨

This week, kids at our community center learned the importance of dental hygiene, because caring for your teeth early helps prevent pain, cavities, infection, and even impacts confidence, nutrition, and overall health.

In Mexico, tooth decay remains one of the most common health issues affecting children, making early education so important.

Small lessons like brushing, flossing, and understanding how sugar affects our teeth can create lifelong healthy habits. Small steps, big futures 💙

Thank you for showing up with patience, love, and unwavering dedication for the children in our community. Thank you for believing in our students, especially on the hard days, for offering encouragement when confidence feels out of reach, and for planting seeds of hope, knowledge, and possibility in their lives.

Books have the power to open hearts, spark conversations, and teach lessons that last a lifetime. 📚✨

A heartfelt thank you to author Abe Sanoja for generously donating copies from The Kitties of the Camino series to our Homework Club children. These beautiful stories are doing more than encouraging reading, they’re helping our children explore important values like empathy, kindness, understanding, and compassion for others.

Día del Niño ~ Mexico’s Day of the Child has been celebrated since 1925. The history of this day is rooted in the belief that childhood is sacred.

Last week our homework club kids got to experience being seen, celebrated, and cherished just for being who they are.

And beyond our walls, the same was happening all over Mexico, children being recognized, centered, and valued.

More than 100 animals sterilized in one day.

In a community where the need is real and the resources are limited, this is what change looks like.

Every spay and neuter prevents future suffering. Fewer animals on the streets. Fewer litters with nowhere to go. Healthier animals. Stronger communities.

This work matters. And days like this remind us why we show up.
