Small Steps For Change Our story began with one little girl, but today our sponsored students and homework clubs support over 50 children in one small colony in Baja California.

We empower children and families in Baja California through education, nutrition, and animal welfare programs, creating safe spaces to learn, grow, and build brighter futures while expanding access, equity, and community support. Our efforts are centered just 30 miles from downtown San Diego, CA. Our focus is education, but not just in the classroom. We know that academics combined with character

development and community service raises up capable, ethical, and altruistic young people eager to help better their families and communities. Our educational programs also includes nutrition, growing your own food and animal education, specifically sterilization, neglect and abuse.

After a brief break, we are back in business and welcoming our kiddos back to our clubs and also back to school.

This week our students traded worksheets for a science experiment and created their own erupting volcanoes! šŸ§ŖšŸŒ‹

At our Homework Clubs, education is about more than finishing assignments. We want our kids exploring, creating, asking questions and getting excited about learning.

Most importantly, we want them to know that this club is theirs too ā€” a place where they are valued, encouraged and reminded that they are capable of so much. ā¤ļø

Lots of laughter, friendship, learning and just being kids.

Because our Homework Clubs have never been only about homework.

Theyā€™re about creating a place where kids feel like they belong. Where theyā€™re celebrated. Where they can try something new, laugh with their friends, move their bodies, learn, grow and make memories.

These moments may look like simple fun, but theyā€™re part of something much bigger. They build confidence. They strengthen friendships. They create connection. And little by little, they help build a stronger community around our kids.

This is what enrichment looks like. This is what community looks like.

And we absolutely love watching it grow. ā¤ļø

When our Community Center Director found this dog, he was covered in ticks. If you look closely in the first clip, you can actually see them.

The first thing he did was reach into his pocket for BravectoĀ®. We carry it in our pockets, our cars, and our backpacks because you never know when youā€™ll meet a dog that needs it.

The second clip was taken the very next day.

One small step can make a difference for one dog and the community we all share.

Celebrating birthdays may seem like a small thing, but moments like these help teach kindness, gratitude, friendship, and the joy of celebrating others.

Every child is born with potential. But not every child is given the opportunity to reach it.

This is the reality weā€™re working to change.

For nearly a decade, weā€™ve had the privilege of walking alongside the communities we serve, learning, growing, and building something meaningful together.

We believe opportunity, not circumstances, should shape a personā€™s future.

When children are given the opportunity to learn, adults are empowered to grow, and communities have the tools and support they need to build a brighter future, lasting change begins.

Thatā€™s why we exist.

Curiosity is where learning begins. šŸŒæ

This week, our students became scientists as they explored the plants and trees growing around them. By collecting leaves and carefully observing their color, shape, texture, edges, and size, they discovered that every plant has unique characteristics and an important role in our environment.

Hands-on learning like this helps children develop critical thinking, observation skills, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. More importantly, it reminds them that science isnā€™t just something found in a textbook. Itā€™s all around them.

At Small Steps for Change, we believe the best education inspires curiosity, encourages questions, and helps children see the world with new eyes. Because when we nurture a childā€™s curiosity today, weā€™re helping them build the knowledge and confidence to shape a better tomorrow.

Some of the most important work we do doesnā€™t always look like work.

Sometimes it looks like laughter, curiosity, messy experiments, and kids getting excited about discovering how the world works.

When we opened our homework clubs, we didnā€™t just want to help children complete assignments. We wanted to create a place where learning is fun, where curiosity is encouraged, and where children can dream a little bigger than they did yesterday.

This day was all about science, but the lesson was bigger than that. Every activity, every question, every moment of wonder is another small step toward building confidence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.

Weā€™re sticking to the plan, creating opportunities, inspiring curiosity, and investing in children one small step at a time.

Because education isnā€™t just about preparing kids for tests. Itā€™s about preparing them for life. ā¤ļø
