An honorary HODAR (Husband of Daughters of the American Revolution) and a certificate expressed appreciation to the Pilgrim Reformed Church pastor, Rev. A highlight of our year is the Valentines lunch we host to thank these gentlemen and ladies for their ongoing service to veterans. The Davidson County Veterans Honor Guard each not only served our country but they also provide graveside rites for veterans at no charge. We’ve enjoyed getting to know them and their guests during our catered meal and lively conversations. This year the pre-k EC and kindergarten children at Southmont Elementary School and art students at South Davidson High School created thank you notes for each veteran.

We appreciate this group of veteran friends!

At our January meeting our Daughters of the American Revolution chapter assembled 50 gift bags for veterans. Each month we collect designated personal care products and fun items like word search large print books and decks of cards. A special treat for these gentlemen and occasionally ladies, is a small coin purse filled with quarters. The bags were delivered to the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury by chapter member Vickie Whitehead and HODAR (husband of Daughter of American Revolution member) Jim Whitehead.

There are approximately 100 beds at the veterans home and they are almost always full. At our February meeting, we will begin the process of collecting items for another delivery of 50 bags in May. If you would like to contribute, please reach out to us on this page or contact a chapter member.
