Long before Belmont County was known for its scenic landscapes and small-town charm, it played a role in one of the most important chapters of American history.

As a border region along the Ohio River, Belmont County became part of the Underground Railroad, helping enslaved individuals on their journey to freedom. Throughout the county, stories remain of safe houses, courageous residents, and communities that quietly stood on the side of freedom despite tremendous risk.

Today, these stories continue to remind us that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference.

If your summer bucket list doesn't include a morning on the water, we need to talk. πŸš£β˜€οΈ

Piedmont Lake is one of Belmont County's most peaceful outdoor escapes β€” and summer mornings here are genuinely hard to beat. The water is calm, the scenery is stunning, and the only thing on your agenda is enjoying it.

Bring your kayak or canoe, cast a line, or just walk the Buckeye Trail along the shoreline and take it all in. Anglers from across Ohio make the trip specifically for the fishing here β€” and once you see the lake, you'll understand why.

For nearly 80 years, some of America's most beautiful glassware was made right here in Belmont County. ✨πŸ₯ƒ

Founded in 1901 in Bellaire, Imperial Glass became one of the most recognized names in American glassmaking. Its handcrafted pieces found their way into homes across the country, earning Bellaire the nickname "The Glass City."

Today, visitors can explore this incredible legacy through the museum and collections that preserve the artistry, craftsmanship, and history of generations of local workers who helped put Belmont County on the map.

Built in 1828. Still standing. Still stunning. πŸŒ‰βœ¨

The Blaine Hill S-Bridge is one of Ohio's most unique historic landmarks β€” a beautifully curved stone bridge right off U.S. Route 40 in Belmont County, and one of the last of its kind in the entire country.

Ohio's official Bicentennial Bridge, it was built during the era when the National Road was the main artery connecting the young nation westward. Walking across it, you're literally standing on the same stones that pioneers, settlers, and travelers crossed nearly 200 years ago.

It's a quick stop and an easy one β€” but it's the kind of place that sticks with you.

After your round, explore everything else Belmont County has to offerβ€”from local restaurants and attractions to scenic views and small-town charm.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who taught us the value of time well spent. 🏌️
