We’re talking about mental health more than ever…
but a lot of parents are still asking:

“What does strong mental health actually look like in a kid?”

In this week’s podcast, Anna and I unpack:
🧠 how kids think
❤️ how they handle emotions
🤝 how connection protects them
⚙️ and how we help kids handle life when things get hard

We also talk about:

* the latest CDC youth mental health data
* why awareness alone isn’t enough
* simple shifts parents can make at home
* and why prevention starts in everyday moments

This conversation is warm, practical, research-informed, and very real-life.

You don’t need perfect conversations.

You need consistent ones.

Quick question…

What are you watering in your family right now?

https://www.buzzsprout.com/2299797/episodes/19098035

Because here’s the hard truth—we don’t usually mean to reinforce the wrong things… but we do it all the time.

Complaining gets attention.
Arguing gets a reaction.
And before we know it, those are the things growing the fastest.

We just recorded a podcast episode about this—how to “water” the good stuff on purpose and stop accidentally feeding the behaviors we don’t want.

It’s simple. It’s practical. And honestly, it might change the feel of your home this week.

What are you growing in your family right now?In this episode, we use a simple but powerful idea—“water or weed”—to talk about how everyday parenting choices shape the culture of your home. Because just like a garden, what you give attention to gr...

Ever watch your kid hit something hard and just… shut down?

Or maybe they say, “I can’t do it,” and everything in you wants to either fix it… or lose your patience a little 😅

We just recorded a podcast episode on this—how to raise kids who don’t give up (and honestly, how to be that kind of parent too).

Because perseverance isn’t about being tough or perfect.
It’s about learning how to stay in it when things get frustrating, boring, or just plain hard.

We talk about:
✔️ Why struggle actually helps kids
✔️ How to shift “I can’t” into “I can’t yet”
✔️ What to say instead of “you’re so smart”
✔️ And how to raise a kid who finishes what they start

If you’ve ever wanted to help your kid stick with something without doing it for them… this one’s for you.

What do you do when your kid wants to quit… or worse, won’t even start? In this episode, we’re talking about how to raise a kid who doesn’t give up—and how to be a parent who doesn’t give up either. Because perseverance isn’t just about pushing thr...

Life skills aren’t taught all at once…they’re built slowly, over time.

From putting toys away, to cooking a full meal, to managing money and time.

Each stage of childhood brings new opportunities for growth.

But here’s the important part . . .
This isn’t a checklist to rush through.

It’s a guide.

Children develop these skills best when they feel:
✔️ Supported
✔️ Capable
✔️ Included in real life

Because confidence doesn’t come from being told what to do—
it comes from doing it alongside someone who believes in them.

So if your child isn’t doing everything on this list yet…
that’s okay.

💛 Follow their pace.
💛 Stay connected.
💛 Invite them in.

That’s how life skills—and confidence—are built.

You know that moment when you ask your kid to do something simple… and they say, “What do I get?”

That’s when you realize rewards might be running the house.

In this episode of Prevention in My Kitchen, we’re talking about one simple shift:
Let rewards be… actually rewarding.

Rewards aren’t the problem. But when everything has a payoff, kids start thinking, “If I don’t get something, why do it?”

That’s when family life turns into constant negotiation.

The truth is, the rewards that work best aren’t money or prizes. They’re your attention, your time, and your words. When you notice effort and say it out loud, you’re building motivation that lasts.

This week, take a look at what’s happening in your house.
Are rewards building habits… or creating negotiations?

And yes, we’re making PB&J baked oats while we talk about it—because this is real life, and prevention happens right in the middle of it.

A new episode of Prevention in My Kitchen: Why Chores Matter More Than You Think! It turns out chores do a lot more than help keep the house clean. Research shows that kids who regularly help at home are more likely to develop responsibility, confidence, and problem-solving skills — all of which help them make healthier decisions as they grow. In this episode of Prevention in My Kitchen, I’m sharing why chores are one of the simplest ways to build important life skills in kids — and a few easy ways to start.

Watch the video and tell me:
What chores did you have growing up?
