In June, we acknowledge the significance of Pride Month and emphasize the importance of understanding the diverse spectrum within our LGBTQIA+ Union family, community, and friends.

Throughout the decades, Pride has become a time of celebration and acceptance of a community seeking equity and equality. As laws changed and barriers were broken down we saw positive movement towards inclusion and equity across our country and in many nations around the world.

This year for many Pride has taken on a different meaning. Many in this community have had their rights trampled. Hard won laws providing equality are in jeopardy of being stripped away. While Pride will always be a time to celebrate the differences that make us great it is also a time to reaffirm our commitment to fight for equity. We will not allow the voices and rights of our flying family to be marginalized.

Pride is a time to raise visibility and advocacy for equal rights and representation for our LGBTQIA+ family, including standing strong against those who would harm them. This year we will celebrate how far we have come while acknowledging the work that is still left to be done to secure the rights of our flying family.

This June, we are kicking off a month-long campaign to highlight the vast LGBTQIA+ community within our AFA family. If you would like to submit a statement and a photo of yourself, explaining what Pride means to you, whether you are a part of the community or an ally, please send an email with your name and base to [email protected]. Likewise, if you would like to share what Pride means to you but wish to remain anonymous, you do not need to submit your name or photo. This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave humans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with loved ones or fly the skies, we remember those who gave everything so we could live freely. We carry their legacy with us, in our gratitude, in our Unity, and in our commitment to never forget them.

Today, we honor all. Always, we remember.

A Letter from MEC President-Elect Scott Pejas

Members of United AFA,

As your incoming MEC President, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of appointing AFA Members to the Joint Implementation Team, also referred to as the JIT.

While this decision was time-sensitive, it was not taken lightly or made in haste. I contemplated the requirements the team should possess to be successful in the arduous task of implementing our newly Ratified Tentative Agreement. The members require a thorough understanding of the negotiations that took place and the conversations that led to the intent of the contractual language.

Those who were present at the bargaining table possess the background, history, and knowledge to defend our Agreement. Those appointed will ensure implementation is brought forward in the way it was agreed to in a timely manner.

After thoughtful consideration and discussions with MEC leaders, I ultimately came to the decision to appoint individuals who possess the qualifications that were vital to our collective success. The AFA Members selected for the JIT are Ken Diaz, Randy Hatfield, and Christopher Thurber. Their history and involvement in negotiations will support a timely and compliant implementation based on what was negotiated at the table and presented to Members.

Please join me in welcoming them to their new roles and supporting them as we move forward together.

In Solidarity,

Scott Pejas
United AFA MEC President-Elect
