The modern conference is becoming more layered.

Reuters NEXT Europe is being built around more than main-stage programming, pairing panels with closed-door roundtables, workshops, and selective livestreaming. That mix is telling: premium events are no longer choosing between exclusivity and reach. They are designing for both.

For planners, the opportunity is to build an agenda that gives each audience the right room: public conversation, private working session, and practical workshop.

The share of companies with a Chief AI Officer jumped from 26% in 2025 to 76% in 2026.

AI adoption is no longer just a software rollout. It is becoming an operating-model question.

IBM’s latest CEO research found that companies are formalizing AI leadership faster, with more organizations adding Chief AI Officer roles and planning for major upskilling over the next two years.

That changes the role of the offsite. Senior teams need time together to decide how AI changes workflows, training, and the way people take meetings – not just which tools to buy.

One of healthcare’s hardest conversations - medical error disclosure – is getting a AI upgrade.

Most clinicians still learn this skill through lectures and observation. But disclosure, risk communication, and patient-safety conversations are clinical skills — and they need practice.

The future looks like a new system built to offer real-time practice, more diverse scenarios, and actionable feedback shaped by input from physicians, risk managers, patient advocates, and communication experts.

People are not tired of learning at events. They are tired of learning that feels hard to apply.

A new Freeman Learning Trends Report, covered by Convene, puts numbers behind something we see often at the OLC: the most valuable education is not always the biggest session, the flashiest room, or the longest agenda:

- Only 14% of attendees said the most compelling learning comes from keynotes, general sessions, or plenaries.

- 59% would rather hear from industry experts than celebrities.

- 91% said they value on-demand session playback, even if they only use it to solve one schedule conflict.

Attendees are asking for clarity, relevance, and learning they can actually carry back into their work.

Associations know this better than anyone: volunteers are not “extra help.” They are part of the engine.

A new Candid article found that 52% of nonprofits say volunteers are necessary to meet their mission, and another 26% say volunteers play “a big role.”

However, 44% said they decided not to volunteer because they were not sure they would belong.

Events often rely on volunteer leaders, committees, speakers, board members, and member champions who are giving their time to help move the mission forward.

When those people feel supported, clear on their role, and welcomed into the experience, they can do more than help for the day. They can stay connected to the mission.

AI agents are not just another tool to train people on. They might be a new kind of coworker.

A new Deloitte Insights article notes that Gartner predicts at least 15% of daily work decisions will be made by “digital colleagues” by 2028. But Deloitte’s 2026 research also found that 84% of companies have not redesigned jobs to fit AI.

That gap is important.

AI agents may help teams move faster, but they also raise questions software cannot answer on its own: Who is accountable? What needs human review? Where should work speed up, and where should it slow down?

At the OLC, we see these conversations becoming more urgent across healthcare, associations, and professional education meetings.
AI may change the operating model.

But organizations still have to design the learning model that helps people use it well.

Chicago’s first dedicated DDR CME course is coming to OLC.

On June 25, we’re excited to host a free, 2-credit CME on Dynamic Digital Radiography — cutting-edge motion-based radiographic imaging used to evaluate joint stability, subtle injury patterns, spine and extremity motion, post-operative mechanics, and clinical decision-making in MSK care.

Two exceptional course faculty members are joining us in Rosemont to lead the conversation. Big thank you to Sarah L. Koles, MSc, MD, FRCPC & Eric R. Wagner, MD, MS, FAAOS, FAOA for bringing world-class clinical insight and thoughtful leadership to this symposium.

Many musculoskeletal conditions are not fully understood from a single static image. This experience is designed for clinicians who want to better understand where dynamic imaging may help bridge gaps in the diagnostic pathway and support more informed clinical decisions.

In-person attendees will join us for lunch, faculty discussion, and Q&A. Virtual access is also available, but in-person seating is limited.
