An Open Invitation to All Those Who Have Supported the R-CATS Program over the last 15+ Years . . .
Join Us for Our Signature SpayGhetti Dinner on Sunday, November 1st, from Noon to 2:30 PM, at the Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club in Rome.

If you have the time, stop and visit a while - over the years, we have come to treasure all of the stories and pictures people have shared with us of their feline friends - both pet and feral - stories that have brought us together time and time again with both laughter and tears.

The Dinner is $12.00 and we respectfully request Reservations be made in advance as there will be very limited Walk In Dinners available. Reservations should be made by Tuesday, October 27, by email at [email protected] or calling 315-533-7442 or 315-338-5658 and provide your name, phone number, the number of Dinners you would like to reserve and whether they are to dine in or take out.

In addition to the Dinner, it will be the last opportunity to purchase tickets to our 2026 Gift Card/Certificate Raffle featuring a collection of gift cards and certificates donated by local Rome businesses with a total value now of almost $1,000 ( currently $985 withmore donations coming in). The lucky winner will be drawn at the close of the Dinner but you do not need to be present to win as local (Rome) delivery can be arranaged.

And our wonderful Supporter - Rebecca from Periwinkle Pig - will be joining us, offering a delightful selection of seasonal statuary for festive indoor and outdoor decorating during the upcoming holiday season.

So if you can, join the R-CATS Program Volunteers in celebrating the difference we have all made in the lives 700+ feral cats over the last 15+ years of promoting the humane approaching to managing the feral cat population in the City of Rome.

IN RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING LIBELOUS STATEMENT RECENTLY PUBLISHED ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE:

R-Cats How many spay/nueters have you done this year?? NOBODY IS GETTING EMAILS BACK FROM YOU. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. Purrs and whiskers does! But she's not doing Rome because we have you yet apparently you aren't giving out spots and just strealing the money that's been donated and raised, including your sold out spaghetti dinner last Fall that was suppose to go towards opening this Spring, Spring came and still nothing.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING VERIFIABLE FACTS:

1. AS CAN BE VERIFIED IN OUR EMAIL ACCOUNT ([email protected]), ALL EMAILS RECEIVED BY THE R-CATS PROGRAM PROGRAM ARE RESPONDED TO AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, INCLUDING THE MANY EMAILS THAT END UP IN OUR SPAM FOLDER. IT IS NOT OUR FAULT OR RESPONSIBILITY IF THOSE RESPONSES ARE NOT RECEIVED FOR WHATEVER REASON BY THE RECIPIENT (SUCH AS THE RETURN MESSAGE BEING DIRECTED TO A SPAM FOLDER WHICH IS NOT CHECKED OR WHEN AN EMAIL ACCOUNT HAS LIMITS WHICH ARE EXCEEDED AT THE TIME THE RESPONSE IS SENT) NOR IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE AN EMAIL FOR ANY REASON BEYOND OUR CONTROL - WHICH HAS HAPPENED AND HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED SEVERAL TIMES INCLUDING WHEN THE SENDING EMAIL SERVER DECIDES OUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS SPAM AND REFUSES TO SEND THE EMAIL OR EMAILS SENT VIA CELL PHONES, ESPECIALLY I-PHONES, WHICH SEEM TO SOMETIME CACHE THE EMAIL BEFORE FAILING TO SEND IT. IN ADDITION, IF ANYONE HAS REACHED OUT TO THE R-CATS PROGRAM VIA EMAIL AND HAS NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE, THEY ARE FREE TO REACH OUT AGAIN, VIA EMAIL OR PHONE IN FOLLOW-UP.

2. SINCE WE POSTED ON 7.19.26 THAT WE HAD REACHED OUR GOAL OF RAISING $3,000 TO RESUME THE SPAY/NEUTER FUNDING PROGRAM, WE WERE OFFERED A TOTAL OF 3 SLOTS IN JULY AND 3 SLOTS IN AUGUST FOR THESE SERVICES. DUE TO STAFFING CONCERNS, WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY SLOTS AVAILABLE IN SEPTEMBER BUT REMAIN HOPEFUL TO HAVE SLOTS IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

3. THE MONEY RAISED AT OUR "SOLD OUT" SPAYGHETTI DINNER HELD IN OCTOBER 2025 ($1,881.25) DIDN'T GO FAR IN LIGHT OF OUR PACKAGE RATE FOR FERAL NEUTERS ($111.51) AND SPAYS ($131.45), WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE EXTRAS LIKE PAIN MANAGEMENT, ANESTHESIA REVERSAL AND CONVENIA ANTIBIOTIC WHEN NECESSARY AND WHICH ADDS FROM $10 TO $50+ TO EACH SPAY/NEUTER.

4. BETWEEN OCTOBER 2025 AND MARCH 2026, THE RCATS PROGRAM NEUTERED 18 MALE AND SPAYED 9 FEMALE FERAL CATS FOR A TOTAL COST - NOT INCLUDING THE EXTRA CHARGES REFERENCED ABOVE - OF $3,190.23 - FAR MORE THAN THE $1,881.25 RAISED AT THE SPAYGHETTI DINNER IN 2025 WITH VIRTUALLY NO DONATIONS RECEIVED OR ADDITIONAL FUND RAISNG ACTIVITIESS HELD DURING THE SAME PERIOD.

IN CONCLUSION - AND TO BE ABSOLUTELY 100% TRANSPARENT - OUR POLICY ABOUT RESPONDING TO ALL PUBLICLY POSTED FALSE AND LIBELOUS ACCUSATIONS AGAINST THE R-CATS PROGRAM, ESPECIALLY SOMETHING AS EGREGIOUS AS THE ACCUSATION OF THE THEFT OR MISUSE OF DONATIONS OR FUND RAISING PROCEEDS HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO REFER THEM TO AN ATTORNEY FOR REVIEW AND POTENTIAL LEGAL ACTION. THE FACT THAT SOMEONE IS IGNORANT ENOUGH TO PUT SUCH FALSE/LIBELOUS ACCUSATIONS IN WRITING IN A PUBLIC POST WITHOUT ANY ACTUAL PROOF OF THE FACTS MAKES THE "CASE" FOR LIBEL THAT MUCH STRONGER AND MORE EASILY PURSUED.

UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THE R-CATS PROGRAM'S FERAL CAT SPAY-NEUTER FUNDING PROGRAM FOR 2026

ON 7/19/26 WE ANNOUNCED THAT WE HAD FINALLY SECURED THE $3,000 MINIMUM FUNDING NEEDED TO RE-OPEN THE FERAL CAT SPAY-NEUTER FUNDING PROGRAM AND SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD SPORADIC AND EXTREMELY LIMITED VET ACCESS INCLUDING 3 SLOTS IN JULY AND 3 SLOTS IN AUGUST.

NOW, DUE TO STAFFING CONCERNS AT THE CLINIC WE WORK WITH, WE HAVE NO SLOTS AVAILABLE IN SEPTEMBER AND IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN WHAT, IF ANY, SLOTS WE WILL BE OFFERED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.

The R-CATS Program is happy to share that we are resuming the Spay/Neuter Funding Program for feral, outside adult cats in the City of Rome.

To those who are interested, please read the following information carefully before reaching out about the Program:

1. Due to limited funding, we can only work with caretakers in the City of Rome and will only be able to offer the spay/neuter funding assistance until the funds are gone. Due to the overwhelming need and to be fair to as many people as possible, we will accept 1 feral adult cat at a time rotating through those who apply for our assistance. If funding and vet access allow, we may be able to assist with more than 1 cat per request.

2. In keeping with the R-CATS Program's founding mission to promote the humane approach to managing the feral cat population in Rome, we only offer the spay/neuter funding assistance to FERAL - OUTSIDE - ADULT cats with the understanding that the feral cats will be returned to their outside home where the caretakers will continue to make sure they have access to food and shelter.

3. As we do not have the financial resources to operate a shelter to take in friendly stray cats or kittens nor to cover the costs to spay/neuter friendly stray cats that are being taken in as pets or rehomed, please do not reach out requesting this type of assistance as, unfortunately, we are not able to help with these types of requests.

4. As a spay/neuter funding program, we assist caretakerrs actively taking care of feral cats in Rome by covering the cost to spay/neuter and vaccinate the adult feral cats. We do not have the volunteers available to humanely trap and transport the feral cats to/from the vet clinic we work with so it is the responsibility of the caretaker to make these arrangements.

5. We do not spay pregnant or lactating cats.

6. All caretakers looking for assistance with spaying/neutering their adult feral cats in Rome will need to complete, sign and return a Request form to be put in the queue for a future slot at the clinic. Please email the R-CATS Program at [email protected] and provide your name and address to receive a Request form.

Thank you to those whose financial support through donations and our fund raising efforts made it possible for us to reopen the Spay/Neuter Funding Program in 2026.

Thank You so much to the wonderful people who attended the 2026 Painting Event fundraiser this afternoon. You're support is greatly appreciated!

And my personal thanks to Rebecca from Periwinkle Pig for hosting this event as well as her ongoing support of the R-CATS Program and to Jason who made sure that the Rome Art & Community Center was the perfect venue it's always been for our Painting Events as well as our small but awesome team including Donna, Dawn, and Gloria for their time and help with this fundraiser.

Congratulations to Laura - the winner of the Scratch Off Raffle - and many thanks to everyone who supported the Raffle buy purchasing tickets!

Because of this support, we are happy to share that the R-CATS Program has reached our goal of raising $3,000 to be able to reopen our Spay/Neuter funding program for feral, outside cats in the City of Rome.

The goal is to start accepting applications for the funding program around July 1st, depending on the schedule that works for the vet clinic we work with.

Information will be posted to our page as soon as it becomes available.

Now what everyone's been waiting to see . . . check out the great selections pictured below that you'll have to choose from to paint at the R-CATS Program's 2026 Painting Event fundraiser hosted by Periwinkle Pig which will be held on Sunday, June 14th, from 1 to 3 PM at the Rome Art and Community Center.

There will be 4 options at this event, which will include bonus pieces if you make a reservation before the event. Both flower options as well as the dragonfly option pictured below will come your choice of two small flowers or a small flower and butterfly while the cat option includes both cats pictured below but only if you make a reservation in advance.

I know it's a hard choice but don't wait to make your reservation to join the R-CATS Program and Rebecca from Periwinkle Pig so you can get in on the bonus pieces and make sure you'll get your first choice of an item to paint at the event.
