Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in the health of our community, but the tumultuous political and socioeconomic environment of the last several years has led to instability and strain.

To help address these needs, the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York is issuing a Request for Applications for a new program: the Strengthening Every Angle (SEA) Change Fund.
They will choose 16 organizations—8 from western New York and 8 from central New York—for SEA Change funding. Each grantee will receive $100,000 in general operating support. Additionally, they will provide individualized coaching and skill building in data and storytelling.

The Griffin Charitable Foundation funded a mobile unit for Clear Path for Veterans that is outfitted to be a full-service “office on wheels” for veterans and military families. It offers reception and interview space where support and assistance can be provided. This includes mental health screenings and referrals to the VA and other local providers (including su***de prevention and substance use services). Immediate needs help such as food, clothing and personal care items will also be provided with the vehicle. It is a way to reach veterans living in remote areas and areas not currently served by Clear Path. Veterans in Rome and the surrounding community with limited mobility, transportation issues, or disabilities may find this mobile unit particularly helpful. The mobile unit will essentially bring services to our veteran’s doorstep.

This past weekend, Varflex Corporation’s employee, Larry Snow, had the honor of accepting a plaque presented by the Vernon Center Park Project.

The Vernon Center Park Project focused on improving facilities for Vernon community members. The money donated help to replace and rebuild the concession stand and gazebo, electrical work for the facilities along with new septic, water lines, material, site prep work which included tree and stump removal and concrete installation.

It was an honor to help rebuild a community park used by many!
