Officer Chris "Batman" Driver Memorial

Officer Chris "Batman" Driver Memorial We are a 501(c) nonprofit. First Watch: February 5, 2013 Outside of law enforcement, Chris was considered a professional gamer among his family and friends.

The purpose of this fund is to support our local law enforcement community by providing scholarships for educational needs, assistance during catastrophic events, and grants for agencies for equipment and training needs. A 2009 graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High, now Rocky Mount High School, Chris played high school football and was also on the wrestling team. In February 2013 he began his career

in law enforcement with the Rocky Mount City Police Department, a duty he took seriously every time he wore the uniform. His passion for protecting the community was evident as his demeanor would change the moment he would transition from civilian to public servant. In August of 2017 his commitment to duty as honored by the City as Chris was promoted to Senior Police Officer, certainly a proud moment in his life which was filled with accomplishments. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle on any day of the week and dancing with family/friends and alongside his wife created many cherished memories. An animal lover at heart, his precious fur babies, Zeus, Xena, and Athena, could always be found by his side. Having the ability to put a smile on anyone’s face, or force one to burst in uncontrollable laughter, Chris’s famous quotes will always remind us that no matter what the situation, be it time to get to work or as he would put it, “work and slave” and his simple acknowledgement, “dilly dilly”, you could always count on Chris and his “I got you”. He was also a member of Edgemont Baptist Church where he praised his Lord and Savior in many ways. A man having many talents, he sang in the church choir as well as with the Rocky Mount Chorus. He was never one to meet a stranger and loved knowing that respect for others was the single, easiest responsibility to live by. He had that special personality in which those around him would gravitate towards. Whether it was his gifted sense of humor, his ability for practical jokes which would always fill the room with laughter, it could be easily said that Chris was the heartbeat of all those around him. "A Hero Never Dies." Batman was his favorite hero out of all the comic books. With the persona of “Batman”, as his legendary hero. He saw Batman as ordinary man with no mutant or superpowers; just a man with very cool toys, who wanted justice for what is right.

📢 Ride Time Update

We wanted to share a quick update regarding Chris' End of Watch Memorial Ride.

Originally, the ride was scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM. However, after considering the forecasted temperatures and the comfort of those attending, we have decided to move the start time to 7:00 PM.

We hope the later start time will help alleviate some of the heat and make the ride more enjoyable for everyone joining us as we honor and remember Chris.

Please note that the updated flyer reflects the new 7:00 PM start time.

Thank you all for your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone as we come together to celebrate Chris' life, legacy, and sacrifice. 💙🖤

Our hearts are heavy as we learn of the tragic loss of a Rocky Mount Police Officer.
While we may never fully understand why these tragedies happen, we do understand the heartbreak that follows. Today, we ask that you keep this officer's family, friends, brothers and sisters in blue, and the entire Rocky Mount Police Department in your thoughts and prayers.
A young officer with so much life ahead of him has been taken far too soon. As a law enforcement family, we are reminded once again how precious and fragile life can be.
On behalf of Chris' family and all those who continue to honor his memory, we extend our deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved this officer.
Please join us in lifting up his loved ones in the difficult days, weeks, and months ahead.
Gone too soon. Never forgotten.

The Rocky Mount Police Department Mourns The Loss of Officer Michael Cotton

Officer Cotton passed away in an off-duty ATV accident in the evening hours on June 10th, 2026.

He served in the United States Military and the Army Reserve for numerous years, while simultaneously serving the Rocky Mount community as a sworn law enforcement officer for 7 years. He had been a K9 officer since 2023. He truly had a passion for law enforcement and for working alongside his K9 partners.

Officer Cotton’s first K9, FORREST, retired and was awarded to him by the city council, and is now a part of Officer Cotton's immediate family.

Officer Cotton had a milestone in his career when he became the agencies 1st African American K9 handler. In February 2026, he successfully completed the rigorous training program with his second K9, LEO, an Explosive Detection K9.

Officer Cotton holds an associate degree in Criminal Justice Technology honors from Nash Community College. Officer Cotton would have celebrated his 30th birthday on June 15th.

Officer Cotton was more than a colleague; he was family. Our hearts go out to his loved ones.

We thank the Wilson County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Wilson County Emergency Services for their ongoing efforts in this investigation, and to all law enforcement agencies for their support and assistance during this difficult time.

We are grateful for the condolences from our community. Thank you.

We are just a few weeks away from Chris' E.O.W. day. While this day is always difficult for family and friends, it is also a time when we come together to honor, remember, and celebrate his life.

Each year, we invite anyone who would like to join us as we continue a tradition that means so much to us. We will ride from the Rocky Mount, NC Police Department to Chris' crash site, where we will pause to remember the sacrifice he made and the legacy he continues to leave behind.

Whether you knew Chris personally or simply want to stand with those who love and miss him, we would be honored to have you join us.

Thank you for continuing to help us keep Chris' memory alive. 💙🖤
