Imagine if you will a world without coral reefs. For many the image would focus perhaps on Australia’s Great Barrier Reefs being non-existent. Some would visualize the Caribbean fading away as a tourist haven. Or what about the disappearance of many of today’s asthma, arthritis, and other inflammatory medications and treatments? Perhaps turning the clock back on a vast majority of cancer, anti-viral, anti-tumor, and anti-bacterial medications. Never mind the natural protection acting as a barrier/buffer from deadly ocean storms and storm surges or simply from minimizing erosion from our coastal beaches. Rarely is it a conversational topic while enjoying a blackened flounder or similar entrée that without coral reefs, home to over a million diverse aquatic species to include thousands of fish species, there would be no indulging in such delicious foods which come from the sea. This would also include the worldwide income of billions of dollars and millions of jobs in well over 100 countries around the world.
