Reporting an Injured Bird:
When calling WRC have the following information available:
*Address and where bird is located at the address (water, street, building, yard, etc.)
*Type of bird
*Visible injury or reason for report
WRC’s dispatcher will advise you on what to do/not to do until a trained rescuer arrives.
*Please do not attempt to rescue birds-of-prey, gulls, herons, egrets, or cormorants. They can inflict serious injuries. Stay calm as to not alarm the bird
Keep the bird in sight until a WRC rescuer arrives

If you have an injured or abandoned bird, place it in a secure box or animal crate. No food or water is generally best. If it's a baby bird keep it warm in the box with a towel and place the box on a heating pad set on low.

Miss Athena is a goof ball. Things at WRC are never dull. We never know what our Ambassadors will be up to. This young girl was having a blast for herself 🀣
Please note the fan has been removed. We were concerned about her jesses getting caught in it.

Friday was FREEDOM day for 7 black bellied whistlers. They came to us as tiny ducklings weighing about 28 grams about 2 months ago. We had so much fun watching them grow and listening to them whistle to each other. It's quiet without them here.

Sometimes a rescued bird doesn't want to leave WRC. With a nice enclosure and free food why would it want to go? πŸ˜‚
After 10 minutes waiting for this Great Blue Heron to exit on it's own Greg gave him his walking papers. 🀣 Once out he was happy to have his Freedom!

Did you know that WRC is able to host internships for students?
This summer we had the pleasure of giving Intern Romando hands on experience working with wild avian species. He performed intake exams on various avian species, received knowledge of laser and plasmo therapies, help is with cleaning mews and cages and so much more.

Romando was an exceptional intern. He was a quick learner and his compassion for wildlife will make him a wonderful addition to any wildlife profession he chooses. We miss him and wish him a great success!

To learn about internships or if you are a student needing volunteer hours call our hotline 361-205-0892 to receive information.

Freedom Day times Three! And triple Pay Day for us. The sun was bright, the breeze was gentle and the locations perfect. All of our rehabs flew off strong and happy in their new homes at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.
Serene the Osprey took off without a look back. She landed in tall grass behind a tricolor heron. Then took off as soon as I paused the video. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ typical, LOL
Micky looked like a Kite on a mission as he flew over the lake and trees. We watched him until he was just a speck in the sky.
Little Nugget sat in Carmen's hand perfectly content bobbing his head and checking out his new surroundings. As I took him he opened his wings and I told him it's ok. As he flew away I watched all the dragonflies around us. A scrumptious meal for a hungry nighthawk.
If you get a chance go to the ANWR. Its so worth the trip and just simply a beautiful place.

(As with all my videos, it is unedited. So, please excuse areas where I stumble over my words.)
