We’re excited to welcome Re-Chaco as a Rockford SusCom Silver Green Leader! 👏 Right here in Rockford, Re-Chaco is setting the bar for what sustainability in business can look like, especially when it comes to recycling and waste reduction.

♻️ Highlights from their efforts:
A key contributor to the designation is Re-Chaco’s rubber recycling program, which has diverted 4.4 tons of used sandal rubber from landfills by recycling worn Chaco soles. The company also supports specialty recycling and packaging-reduction initiatives that reduce waste and resource use.

Re-Chaco has also adopted a local storm drain, committing to keep it clear of debris to help prevent pollution from entering nearby waterways. Together, these efforts reflect the company’s approach to responsible manufacturing while supporting the Rockford community.

It’s clear that sustainability isn’t just something they do; it’s part of who they are.

🌱 What’s next? We’re excited to see Re-Chaco continue their journey and to collaborate with them on future sustainability efforts in our community.

Join us in congratulating Re-Chaco for their leadership and commitment to a more sustainable Rockford! 💚

Watch them bloom!🌻 Our community raingarden is coming to life and providing an essential buffer between Rum Creek and potentially contaminated rainwater coming from parking lots/roofs.

Next time you visit the temporary Krause Memorial Library, find this raingarden and scan the QR code to spot all the native species planted there!

Thank you to our volunteers and partners for making this project happen.

What SusCom's Environmental Stewardship Team did over Fall/Winter - December 2025 Report

On the first Saturday of December a dedicated and snow loving volunteer crew removed non-native, invasive autumn olive at Glen Park as part of an effort to open up the park understory to enable native plants to flourish and provide a more natural park view.
