This category evaluates a candidate’s understanding of the proper role and responsibilities of a board member. Key areas include recognizing the distinction between governance and day-to-day administration, respecting that individual board members do not possess independent legal authority, and demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality in service to the district and community.

If you have been following along, you know Trustee Anderson asked to have board comments last month. Her motion was denied by majority stating there should be guardrails. However, the superintendent doesn't have guardrails and gets final remarks at every board meeting. When will we get to hear from our elected school board members?

Transparency and community engagement are not optional, they are the foundation of trust.

👀 See something. Say something. Do something. That has always been my approach when it comes to our schools and our community.

Whether it’s advocating for safer streets around our schools, questioning early release days that didn’t make sense after breaks, asking for more transparency during redistricting and repurposing discussions, supporting staff when resources are stretched thin, ensuring bond promises and funding commitments are honored through clear financial reporting, supporting parent-led green initiatives, or digging into reading scores and intervention tiers so no child is left behind, I believe in speaking up and doing the work.

Advocacy is not about being the loudest voice in the room. It’s about asking thoughtful questions, bringing public information to light, and making sure every student, family, staff member, and taxpayer is considered.
