West Michigan Coyotes

West Michigan Coyotes We are a MTB racing team of student-athletes Grades K-12 from across West Michigan. Welcome to the West Michigan Coyotes. We abide by three principles:

1.

As of 2022, we have members from across the area, as far north as Grant, south to Sturgis and along the corridor from Grand Rapids to Muskegon (including Forest Hills, EGR, Spring Lake and Grand Haven). Mountain biking is a great sport for everyone. Starting while you’re still in elementary school, middle school or high school sets you up for a lifetime of fun in the woods.

2. Racing is fun, and

racing together is even more fun. Our team, while competitive and excited to win a team championship some day, really revolves around having a good time on your bike.

3. Sportsmanship is contagious.

First practice of the season at Owasippe had all the good stuff.

Kids on bikes. Coaches everywhere. Chance of rain. A lot of helmets. Exactly the kind of energy we love.

This year, the Coyotes are 150 riders strong…

Supported by 63 coaches.

And it’s not about who’s fast.

It’s not about podiums.

It’s about kids doing something hard, fun, simple, and good.

They’ll build confidence. They’ll make friends. They’ll learn they can do more than they thought.

That’s the good stuff.

Coyotes season is officially open.

Coach season kickoff ride ✅

Huge thanks to the Coyotes leadership team for all the behind the scenes work getting this season ready, and to every coach who showed up tonight to help us get rolling.

With 150 riders this year, it takes a lot of people, planning, patience, and trail miles to make it all happen.

We’re excited to kick off the season next Monday at Owasippe.

Send It.🤘

More trail time at Owasippe? Yeah, we’re listening.

This is not a MISCA or Coyotes event, but Owasippe and the Scouts have been huge supporters of youth mountain biking for a long, long time. The Scout reservation has helped create a ton of memories for Coyotes riders, families, and the larger youth riding community.

This summer, Camp Reneker is opening trail access for Singletrack Summer, June 14-27.

Cabins are available, the pool will be open, and families can sign up for extra camp activities like zipline, climbing, fishing, archery, games, and more.

Ride bikes. Stay in a cabin. Let the kids burn energy. Repeat.

May the 4th be with the Coyotes.

Not saying Tyler is a Jedi…
but that is a pretty confident amount of trail authority for someone holding a glowing blue laser sword.

Ride bikes. Trust the Force.
Yip yip.

Big thanks to for supporting the Coyotes this season.

When you’re managing a big pack of riders across trails, hills, corners, mechanicals, snack negotiations, “I dropped my chain,” and the occasional “wait… where did that group go?” moment, clear communication matters.

These radios help our coaches stay connected, keep practices moving, and make the rider experience safer, smoother, and a little less chaotic.

Plus, they look pretty official in the team gear box, which means at least one coach is absolutely going to say “copy that” way too many times.

The pack is ready to roll. Yip yip.

Lakeshore riders…you’re up first.

Kit Fit Night is TONIGHT at Loose Spokes Bicycle Shop (5:00pm–7:00pm).
Coach Jeff will be there ready to help with sizing and any questions so you can get dialed.

While you’re there…might as well grab the spring riding essentials you know you need. And if it accidentally turns into new bike day…we expect pics. 😄

Important sponsor update.

As part of our new performance nutrition partnership, all Coyotes snacks will now be limited to plain rice cakes, unsalted almonds, and other deeply disappointing choices.

Unfortunately, enforcement has already become an issue.

Aspen was found this morning hoarding contraband granola bars, cookies, and multiple high risk snack items.

This is an active investigation.

Only 4 weeks until Barry-Roubaix.

Which feels like plenty of time…until you remember it is, in fact, not that much time.

These are a few of our favorite shots from last year and they pretty much sum it up…big smiles, big effort, family fun, and classic Coyotes energy all over the course.

Good news…the Coyotes already have the most important things covered: bikes, grit, snacks, and elite thumbs-up form.

Are you ready??
