Students returned to Rockford High School this fall without one classmate who inspired the entire community.

Today is honestly one of those extremely hard days. Why does a day bring that out in you or us…we will never know. September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month…and as we recognize that. We made a promise to Anni that we will never give up our fight for her, kids currently battling and the ones to come in the future. But our fight is 365, not just September 🩷. Anni we love you…miss you…and we continue to honor you 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

What began as a crazy idea one late night in the PICU at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in 2021 is now five years old! As we reflect on the fifth anniversary of Anni’s Army Foundation, we realize this may be the most positive thing to come out of Annika’s diagnosis. Over time, we have grown to fund innovative research, support hospital-based programs, provide financial assistance via Anni’s Gift, grant scholarships and raise awareness. With our impact approaching $200,000 it’s been quite the five-year journey.

When Annika passed away this spring, we had some ask if Anni’s Army Foundation would continue - our resolve is stronger than ever and if anything, we intend to fight even harder for children navigating the cancer journey. All in honor of our Annika, who was so empathetic to those on their own cancer journey and their caregivers and felt deep satisfaction in being able to help others.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to donate dog collars and leashes to Rockford Public Schools MI Ram Pack therapy dogs. They were one of Anni’s best parts of the day while at school. Thank you Steve Matthews and your entire staff for the hospitality. We know this is putting a smile on Anni’s face 🩷. Thank you Chaco for designing these for our foundation.
