Here is information on the Celebration of Life for Steve Larew, planned on September 12th in Oviedo, FL. We are working on captioning and ASL interpreters for this.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for an ALDA scholarship that will be established in Steve's name to help newcomers be able to attend ALDAcon. Donations can be make to ALDA at this link: https://alda.org/alda-donation/ *Please note in the description field the donation is being made in honor of Steve Larew. *

Sad news: Long-time member and former President, Steve Larew, passed away on 7/14/26, after a long illness. See the announcement here: https://mailchi.mp/alda/in-memory-of-steve-larew

Condolences to Steve and Debbie's family and friends. He will be sorely missed. Godspeed, Steve Larew

In lieu of flowers, Debbie has asked that donations be directed to ALDA. The plan is to set up a scholarship, in Steve's name, for financial assistance for newcomers to attend ALDAcon. Meanwhile, until that process is complete, donations can be sent to https://alda.org/alda-donation/

Today, 6/23, a MailChimp e-blast was sent to all of our subscribers. It had information on the following:

1. ALDAcon Scholarship application deadline is 6/30/26.
2. ALDAcon Early-bird Registration rate deadline is 6/30/26.
3. ALDAcon Award Nominations deadline is 8/11/26.
4. A planned group Ghost Tour during ALDAcon (on Thursday, 10/8/26 at 6:30 PM).

ALDAcon 2026 Call for Papers - The Association of Late-Deafened Adults (ALDA, Inc.) is now accepting workshop proposals for the 37th Annual International Convention (ALDAcon), October 7-11, 2026, at Williamsburg Lodge, in Williamsburg, VA.

If you have a workshop idea that will benefit the hearing loss community, we invite you to fill out and submit the Call for Papers form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfyNe2_XbfHJ13apu-9KFkznYm-t7Mi0FLYWvk-tt7AOQwQaw/viewform to the ALDAcon Program Committee by May 15, 2026.
