Unveiling the next chapter for United for Literacy!

Over the past two days, we've gathered with donors, community partners, and neighbors to celebrate the momentum behind United for Literacy and unveil an exciting vision for what's next.

And there's so much to build on!

📖 175,000+ books delivered throughout Winnebago County during the 2025–26 year.

🤝 $308,433 in literacy grants awarded to 58 funded partners, and growing.

🎯 One bold goal: 75% of Winnebago County third-graders reading at grade level or above by 2034.

We unveiled our new Community Solutions Action Plan, a roadmap for strengthening partnerships, aligning efforts, and accelerating progress toward that shared goal.

The momentum is growing, and the next chapter is just beginning.

Stay connected as we share more about the people, partnerships, and progress moving United for Literacy forward.

📚 The next chapter of United For Literacy starts here!

Join us for an exclusive first look at the Community Solutions Action Plan—a roadmap to strengthen childhood literacy and help more children become confident, successful readers.

Developed in collaboration with our community partners, the plan outlines a shared vision for turning ideas into action and creating lasting impact.

We're excited to welcome Ron Fairchild, United Way's strategic consulting partner, who will present the plan and share what's ahead for United For Literacy.

Join us at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 20, at the Rockford Public Library.

There’s something powerful about seeing an entire community roll up its sleeves.

Day of Caring brought volunteers out from behind their desks and into neighborhoods and local nonprofits across our community — painting, cleaning, organizing, landscaping, building, and tackling projects that make a real difference.

But the impact goes beyond what was accomplished in a single day.

Every project completed means a local nonprofit can put more time and resources toward its mission. Every volunteer who showed up strengthened a connection between a workplace, an organization, and the community we all share.

That’s what Day of Caring is about: people showing up for people.

To every volunteer, employer, and nonprofit partner who made the day possible —
thank you for putting care into action.

ICYMI: We celebrated 9 to 5 Day with a little A-B-C!

The Winnebago County ABCs Project took us to 11 sites across the county, highlighting some of the places that make our community special.

The project is a fun complement to our year-round focus on childhood literacy and our support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, helping celebrate the importance of books, learning and building strong reading foundations from an early age.

From A to Z, there’s a lot to love about Winnebago County, and plenty of reasons to keep turning the page.

We danced, we played, and we GLOWED!

The Baby Rave, hosted by YMCA of Rock River Valley, was full of music, movement, bubbles, colorful lights, sensory play, and plenty of smiles. From little ones crawling and bouncing to families dancing together, it was wonderful to see so many memories being made.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Check out some of our favorite moments from the dance floor!

Some donations just hit deeper than others ❤

These wonderful folks from Milestone, Inc. stopped by to donate proceeds from their bake sale and balloon sales that staff and residents held in honor of their late Director Shaun Way. We are grateful they choose us for this gift and to help remember such a wonderful man who loved his community!
