NEED URGENT TRANSPORT: Philadelphia, PA (PHL) ➔ Rochester, NY

Date: Friday, October 23rd
Pickup Time: ~8:30 PM–9:00 PM (Passengers land at PHL at 7:43 PM EDT on Aeromexico AM 608)

Dogs Being Transported:

1. Georgina – ~15 lbs (7 kg / small size), friendly 7-year-old wirehaired terrier mix, super sweet & calm traveler.
2. Nugget – ~15–20 lbs, small scruffy terrier mix, super friendly.
(Both fly in-cabin/passenger side with flight angels from Mexico City to PHL!)

Route / Legs Needed:

Total Distance: ~330 miles (~5.5 to 6 hours total drive)
Open to a direct run OR splitting into 2–3 legs (e.g., PHL ➔ Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ➔ Binghamton/Syracuse ➔ Rochester).

Provided:

- Crate/carriers & gear provided
- All paperwork/health certificates ready upon landing
- Compensation for gas

Wags and wishing you a happy birthday Pam! 🎂🎈

We are so thankful to have you as part of our team! Today, Pam won the best volunteer award for working with us ALL DAY at the Apple Fest ON HER BIRTHDAY!!!! Thank you for everything you have done to make Wags and Wings successful, we couldn’t do it without you! The dogs—and us—are very lucky to have you helping. Happy birthday from the whole Wags and Wings team and all 72 dogs who’s lives you have helped change ❤️🐾

In light of recent questions regarding international rescue logistics and biosecurity, we want to share some important context and educational facts about our mission and federal compliance protocols.

The author of this review has not fostered, adopted, or volunteered through Wags and Wings Dog Rescue and their absurd claims are based solely on social media perception and ignorance.

Regarding the concerns of biosecurity and ethics:

1. The Screwworm Outbreak
According to the CDC, the outbreak of screwworm consists of 20 cases in southern Texas and the risk to animals nationwide is very low. The “outbreak” predominantly affects livestock under active USDA surveillance in Central America. Additionally, we rescue dogs from Guadalajara, MX. Guadalajara has no major outbreak of screwworm as they are prevalent in Chiapas and Tabasco (900 miles from where our dogs come from). Nevertheless, we strictly adhere to CDC guidelines that require extensive testing with valid certificates regarding screwworm before any dog can enter the country.

2. Global Welfare Disparities
In Mexico, there are over 18 million dogs on the street, barely surviving. Unlike in the US, there is virtually no municipal shelter infrastructure, humane euthanasia laws, or public spay/neuter and vet resources. Due to this disparity, the intervention rate for dogs in Mexico is exceptionally low at less than 1%. Most of these dogs face starvation, abuse, or fatal illness to the point where the average lifespan of a street dog in Mexico is 3 years. In one town, roughly 2,000 dogs die per day and the average lifespan is 15 days.

3. Foster Logistics and the Zero-Sum Fallacy
Rescue is not a zero-sum game. There is no guarantee that those who adopt from us would alternatively adopt from a US shelter. In fact, many of our fosters and adopters have never worked with a rescue before. They specifically chose to work with us wanting to give a high-risk dog a chance. Transporting 20-30 dogs per year does not cause domestic shelter overcrowding—backyard breeding and failure to sterilize pets do.

Compassion does not end at an arbitrary border. If you don’t like what we do, feel free to hide this page, but we will continue to rescue Mexican street dogs. Why? Because no one else will.

I had hopes of making a big post for this special anniversary. Five years since transporting Nakia. Five years of rescuing dogs. Five years of making an impact.

But something today brought me back to the same place I was five years ago—holding a dying dog in my arms, wishing she had the chance that Mara had gotten. I was brought back to the same place I was seven years ago—falling in love with a dog on the beach and using the money I had been saving all year to buy her flea and tick prevention.

I saw this dog at the grocery store in Anguilla. She was eating bones she found on the street, emaciated, had hypertrophied ni***es, and walked with pain from an old hip fracture. The store owners said she belonged to the residents next door. There was nothing I could do.

70 dogs in five years is a negligible amount compared to the millions that continue to suffer on the street. Every. Single. Day. This thought alone is incredibly discouraging to our mission.

But that’s not a reason to stop. Whether Wags and Wings exists or not, my heart will always shatter into a million pieces when I see a dog in pain. But because of Wags and Wings, 70 less dogs will live that nightmare. Jona, Millie, Nilla, Bean, Piper, Valentina will go to sleep tonight in a real bed. Lo**ta, Quinoa, Luna, Merlin, Koda, Frida will eat their breakfast tomorrow, just like any other day. Patrona, Rico, Lena, Chico, Layla will play like crazy and know they will have a place to go when they want for rest. Nakia will live another day. Another five years, and more.

THAT is why we do what we do. And in another five years, I’m going to come back to you with a post of hundreds of dogs rescued.

I will always cry seeing a dog on the street. I’ll do everything I can to help them. I’ll alert the local vets and rescues and give them food just like I did for this sweet girl. But the however many dogs we rescue will no longer struggle to survive. So we keep going.

This weekend was THE MOST productive weekend we have had.

On Friday, Nina’s foster parents decided to adopt her. She played so well with their Wags and Wings alum, Tia (fka Tita) they just had to make it official. Nina’s mom also told us about the Sweet Corn Fest on Saturday and Sunday but we originally declined due to other commitments.

On Saturday, we got a text from Loreta’s foster asking us to start the adoption paperwork. She has been doing incredible in their home and is thriving despite some acclimation challenges in the beginning. This new start will be so great for her.

On Sunday, Valentina had a fantastic meet and greet and went home with her potential new mom and her potential four-legged brother, Benny. Thank you to and for introducing Valentina to her forever person!

When other commitments fell through on Sunday, we decided to go to the Sweet Corn Fest with two dogs, some cards, and a dream. Nina and Tia’s mom got us set up at a bench with a little chalkboard sign (as we were grossly unprepared). The talented was gracious enough to let us share his space so the dogs could be in the shade.

From that event, we received an application for Nami and an application for Almendra. Both of the girls have been in trial adoption homes since Monday and they are doing great.

In a record of 10 days, all of the dogs from the latest trip are out of fosters and in (hopefully) forever homes. We are so grateful for all of your support❤️
