Best Buddies Michigan

Best Buddies Michigan Friendship, Jobs, Leadership Development, and Inclusive Living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Michigan.

Michigan is one of just a few states without a Best Buddies office to establish and support local chapters. That means the 160,000 people with IDD in Michigan are missing a chance to move from an environment of segregation and isolation to one where they are engaged, accepted and integrated into our schools, our workplaces and our communities. Our immediate goals are straightforward: to raise awar

eness about the organization and to raise $250,000 to create a full time office in Michigan. This will allow us to form, promote and administer chapters across the state. Every day Best Buddies provides the opportunity for a smile, a phone call, a laugh, and most importantly, a friend. With your help, we can make this a reality in Michigan as well!.

Last week, we celebrated a huge milestone for our state and an incredible group of participants at our first-ever Ambassador Academy Graduation Ceremony! 🥳🌟

11 of our participants from throughout the state became official Best Buddies Ambassadors after undergoing a 9-month long leadership development program, focused on inclusive leadership and self-advocacy. We are incredibly proud of each of them and their accomplishments! 👏

The future is bright with these leaders spreading the Best Buddies mission around the state of Michigan. Whether it’s speaking up at school, advocating for themselves at work, or demonstrating inclusion in their communities, these actions will go a long way in making the world a more inclusive place. Congratulations! 💛

What a day for friendship in Michigan! 💜

At this year’s Michigan Best Buddies Friendship Walk, we crushed our fundraising goal — raising nearly $98,000 — and welcomed a record-breaking crowd of 1,700+ participants to celebrate inclusion, friendship, and community. We are beyond grateful to every walker, donor, volunteer, chapter, family member, and supporter who helped make this our biggest and most impactful Walk yet!

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors for making this event possible: Play It Again Sports – Saline, Franco, Sephora, Flourishing Lives, Magna, Behavior Frontiers, Hobbs + Black Architects, FirstStar Consulting, Competition Corvette Club of Michigan, MSUFCU, Krista Jelsky Realty, Waymo, TouchPoint, Sun Communities, and New York Life Foundation. 💫

Special shout-out to our top fundraisers:
⭐ Top School Team: South Lyon High School
⭐ Top Individual Fundraiser: Courtney Hindersman
⭐ Top Corporate Team: TouchPoint
⭐ Top Friends & Family Team: MI Jobs Team

We also want to recognize everyone who helped make the event so memorable — from the Wolverine Stormtrooper and the amazing characters from the 501st Legion, to the Michigan Pualani Polynesian Dancers, Ava & Joe for sharing their powerful speech, Mady & Grace for leading warm-ups, Byron for performing the National Anthem, our face painter and caricature artist, our community resource tablers, and every single volunteer who gave their time and energy throughout the day.

Seeing hundreds of people come together in support of inclusion and friendship reminds us just how powerful this community is. Thank you, Michigan, for showing up in such a big way. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

Thank you to Chris Lucas for the great photos! The full album is available at the link in our bio.

Today’s a beautiful day to make a new friend 💜☀️

Are you an adult without IDD living in Washtenaw County or Oakland County? We have the perfect opportunity for you — and the best part is, it doesn’t feel like “volunteering” at all.

Our Best Buddies Citizens chapters bring adults with and without IDD together through:
✨ One-to-one friendships
✨ Fun monthly community outings
✨ Meaningful social connections
✨ A welcoming, inclusive community

Making friends as an adult can be HARD — and sometimes all it takes is saying yes to something new. 💫

Whether you love coffee runs, game nights, walks around town, or just meeting kind people, Best Buddies is a great way to expand your circle while making a real impact in someone else’s life, too.
