8-22-2026 CASE Update

CASE: He is still yelling at Angela to feed him or pay attention to him every time she is outside. Although she explains it is not always feeding time, he continues to call & talk to her trying to convince her he is still starving. Of course, she reassures him, but he is unwavering in his vocalizations.

He has leveled off in his weight gain for now. This may be due to the crazy heat they are getting out there. He still finishes all his feed, but it takes him forever. He is a slow eater, will leave some and then go back for more during the day. Along with his hay and pelleted feed, he has 24/7 access to what remains of the pasture grass.

This recent picture shows no loss of weight, but he appears to have been in a fight with someone! When I first saw it, it looked like he had a black eye. After I asked Angela about it, she laughed and said it was from the roll-on fly repellent she has been applying. The flies weren’t too bad until recently (same thing here. With the heat comes the flies!). We ordered 2 flymasks to be sent and they should arrive soon. Hopefully it will make things a bit easier for Angela’s daily application of fly repellent.

This is the first month that CASE hasn’t had any bills! Woot! Woot! Soon we will have another metabolic blood panel done to see where his liver values are now. He is still being given Platinum Performance and the Livatrope liver supplement. His monthly board/care is due on the 24th.

Most of our rehab cases take about 3-4 months to get back to “normal/acceptable” weight / health and are often pretty much “out of the woods” at this point barring health issues-laminitis, colic, injury, etc. Of course, there are always exceptions. This is usually the period that is most costly due to vet, farrier, dental, transport etc. costs. With CASE’s initial liver issues, etc. I wasn’t sure that he’d be doing this well at 4 months after we reached out to help him thanks to YOU!!

CASE Ultrasound, etc. Update

CASE made it to his Ultrasound/Liver Biopsy & Dental appointment & back just fine. They had to wait awhile before the vet could see him. He got antsy in the trailer and Angela spent time with him while she watched a movie on her phone. He was then moved to a nearby pen to wait until the vet was available and he settled down.

The vet we scheduled with had a previous appointment that got complicated and we were scheduled with a different vet. Fortunately, Dr. England's (new vet) specialty is internal medicine.

I'm not gonna lie. I have been extremely worried about the results. Kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Ultrasound went well. So well in fact the vet said a liver biopsy wasn't necessary!! Thanks to vet care, supplements, previous medication and the excellent care that Angela is giving him, his condition is improving!! Per the vet, we should recheck his liver enzymes in 3-4 weeks.

Dental care was a bit of a circus as CASE was just not having it! He was being lightly sedated, but each time he came out of the sedation quickly. At one point he had 4 of the vet staff trying to keep him still while they took care of his teeth!

One tooth was extremely long and the opposing tooth was flattened. He does have serious wave mouth and should have another dental appointment in 6 months.

After I spoke with Dr. England who is very personable and explained things so that I could really understand what was going on, I hung up the phone and sat there for awhile feeling so much relief! Thank you for your support, caring about CASE, prayers and positive thoughts. We just cannot thank you enough!! YOU made this happen for CASE! We could not have helped him come from a weakend, emaciated, horse on the verge of giving up to the vocal, vibrant and gorgeous boy he has become in just 3 months!! Angela (QT Manager) does an excellent job of monitoring feed & supplements, scheduling farrier and vet appointments, checking manure output, watching him closely for any health issues and putting up with my constant phone calls.

Contributions to the Ultrasound/Liver Biopsy, Transport Fundraiser were in excess of the actual costs!! CASE didn't have to have a liver biopsy and the labs associated with this procedure. The remaining funds after paying the vet and transport have been used toward CASE's Board & Care, supplements, etc that were due. Again, we thank you!

My input on the dental and ultrasound results is simply.....WOOT! WOOT!

This morning I spoke to Dr. Gonzalez of Oakridge Equine Hospital who will be performing CASE's Ultrasound & Liver Biopsy on Friday, 7/24/2026. He was very personable and informative about he procedure and will call me once it is completed to share what he was able to see via the ultrasound. It will be a few days before we get the lab results from the biopsy back.

Since CASE will be sedated for the US/biopsy, I asked if it would be possible to address his teeth. Dr. Gonzalez said 'of course', so we have added dental to the appointment on Friday, June 24, 2026. Obviously, there will be an extra charge for this of $150.00.

We are still a bit short on our goal of raising $1500 for the Ultrasound/Biopsy & transport fees and now need funds to cover the dental costs. ANY help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
