Tonight - 5/27, we are very happy to have Mike Peters from Long Branch Fly Fishing, 7pm start at the clubhouse in Fairmount Park, Riverside, CA.  Mike will be presenting:  Fly Fishing the West: Techniques, Tactics, and Species Across Four Iconic States

Whether you’re new to fly fishing or a seasoned angler, this presentation offers valuable insights for every skill level. Mike Peters will guide attendees through a dynamic overview of effective fly fishing techniques used across four premier Western destinations: California, Alaska, Oregon, and Montana.

Mike will break down strategies for both single‑handed and two‑handed Spey/switch rod applications, explaining when and why each tool excels. The session will cover a wide range of targeted species—from freshwater trout and bass to saltwater gamefish and the highly sought‑after steelhead.

Drawing on years of guiding and competitive casting experience, Mike will share practical tips, regional considerations, and proven approaches that anglers can immediately put to use on the water.

Tonight, 4/22, 7pm start at the clubhouse.  We are very happy to have Paul Lenos from Four Winds Guide Service in Redding, CA.  Paul will be talking about wade fishing and drift boat fishing the Upper and Lower Sacramento River.

Paul developed a passion for fishing early on in his life and knew where his heart was set. It was in college that he first met Oncorhynchus mykiss (the rainbow trout) in the Lake Erie tributaries of Northern Ohio. Fostering in him a passion to pursue these amazing fish that would take him across the country. After college, work in fisheries brought Paul to Northern California where he worked as a fisheries technician monitoring salmon and steelhead in the Sacramento River. Instilling in him an intimate connection to the waters we fish. In the summer, Paul has been working as a fishing guide in Alaska chasing salmon trout and steelhead. In 2017, Paul opened Four Winds Guide Service, a guide service located in Redding California. Having a passion and connection with the water, it’s not hard to see why Paul has devoted his life to working on the water. His website is https://fourwindsguideservice.com/

Tonight 3/25, 7pm!  Deep Creek Fly Fishers is thrilled to have Blake Jackson from Ugly Bug Fly Shop in Casper, Wyoming.  Blake will be talking about all of the fishing opportunities in Central Wyoming.  We’ve heard there are some big and beautiful cutthroats…

Blake Jackson is a co-owner of Casper, Wyoming’s renowned Ugly Bug Fly Shop and Crazy Rainbow Fly Fishing—one of the largest outfitting operations in the country. A destination twice recognized by Orvis as Outfitter of the Year, the shop serves as a hub for Blake’s deep industry expertise. As a signature tier for Umpqua Feather Merchants, his commercial patterns are staples in fly boxes nationwide, and his insights have been featured on the Discovery Network, Outdoor Channel, Fox News.  Whether he’s navigating the Miracle Mile and Grey Reef sections of the North Platte River or chasing carp on local reservoirs, Blake is defined by a relentless dedication to the craft. Beyond the water, he is a committed mentor, volunteering his time to share the therapeutic power of fly fishing with veteran groups and local youth.

Tonight 2/25, 7pm start, we are thrilled to have Fred Rowe from Sierra Bright Dot presenting - Streamer Fishing the Upper and Lower Owens.

Tonight we have Fred Rowe from Sierra Bright Dot speaking. I know some of you are thinking I know how to fish the Sierras, but do you know how to streamer fish the Upper and Lower Owens? How about the East Walker? Will these tactics work anywhere? What flies does Fred use?  Fred will be combining two talks. The usual nymph talk for our Introduction to Fly Fishing and a Streamer fishing the Sierras. For you veteran fly fishers, if you can put up with the first presentation, the second one on streamer fishing will be worth your time. Add another arrow in your fly fishing tactics quiver. Plus added bonus you get to socialize with us other fly fishers. Come tell us about the big fish you caught this winter.

Clubhouse opens at 6:00 pm, with fly tying before the 7pm meeting start.  New members are always welcome.

Tonight 1/28, 7pm Start at the clubhouse --  Deep Creek Fly Fishers is very happy to have Scott Leon as tonight's speaker.  Scott will be speaking about catching Billfish on the Fly.

Here is more about Scott:  Scott Leon is a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. He grew up in the competitive world of tournament bill fishing where he picked up a fly rod to catch bait along the way. While he has caught every species of billfish on conventional tackle, he lacks only the swordfish to complete his royal billfish slam on fly. He has been lucky enough to fish all over the world and help other professional captains and crews in learning how to fly-fish offshore and nearshore waters world-wide for decades. Maybe without surprise, he spent some time in the Navy before spending way too much time in school, earning a slew of almost useless degrees. He was the editor for Fly Fishing in Saltwaters magazine for years, learning the inside-and-outs of an industry and sport he had only previously taken part in as an ardent enthusiast. He has published hundreds of articles in many magazines around the world and has more than a few cover photos to his credit. He is advisory staff for Temple Fork Outfitters and pro staff for a few other fishing-related companies as well. He was a lead instructor at the oldest and largest casting and fly fishing school in the southern US and he ran a charter boat, specializing in offshore fly fishing in San Diego for nearly a decade until the madness of all the downtime drove him to write a series of novels that only tangentially have to do with fishing. When he is not fishing, he now works at Amgen, managing a team that investigates complaints. Most of his degrees are still useless though.

Deep Creek Fly Fishers is very pleased to have Lino Jubilado as our October 22nd Meeting (tonight) Speaker, 7pm start time at the clubhouse.

Lino is going to present  "Beyond the Foam - A Multi-Species Approach to Fly Fishing the Surf"

I am an experienced Southern California fly angler and an avid fly tyer who lives, eats, and breathes
all things fly fishing. As an accomplished competitive angler, I have multiple bass tournamentvictories, big fish awards, and an American Bass Association, Angler of the Year title. I am a 2020 California Fly Fishing Open (CFFO) Gold medalist and a 2018 & 2019 CFFO bronze medalist in an all tenkara team. I also have a 2 nd Place finish with big fish honors at the 2019 Carp Fest team tournament in Kernville, CA.

I love sharing my knowledge and experience with others and have been the featured speaker at
many events including the So Cal Fly Fishing Club Consortium, The Fly Fishing Faire, and Orvis
Pasadena. I was also featured in the Los Angeles Times and Vice Media’s “Munchies”- Eating Sewer Salmon from the LA River.

I have experience catching everything from Tuna on the fly to small native rainbows and bluegill in
local lakes, streams, and ponds. My specialties include targeting carp in the LA River, largemouth bass in urban ponds and lakes, and a variety of surf species.

I am a Temple Fork Outfitters Ambassador and, on the Simms, and Far Bank Enterprises (Sage,
Reddington, Rio Products) pro staff. Other supporters include Tenkara USA and Orvis Pasadena.

Although I am not a guide, I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to mentor and coach many great people to catch their first bass, carp, corbina, and many other species on the fly. It is very rewarding to bring a trophy fish to hand, but nothing compares to helping others get a thrill from learning and accomplishing this task themselves. Whether it be someone’s first or largest fish on the fly, I love watching the smiles and joy fly fishing brings to others more than anything.

September 24th Meeting (Tonight!), Deep Creek Fly Fishers is very happy to have Terrence Tinucci from Deep Creek Outfitters as our speaker, 7pm start time.  He will be talking about Fly Fishing SoCal for Wild Trout.

Here is more information about Terrence - I guide for and run an outfitter in Southern California. We fish for a wide variety of mostly trout from small wild trout in the back country creeks, to 20 lb plus trout in big lakes. Fly Fishing and fly tying have had my attention since 1992. All these years later, I have seen this industry, the fisherman, fly tying materials and the
sport grow. As a fly tier, I am always looking for innovative products and materials. As a
fisherman and guide, I am always looking for the best patterns and most productive
flies. As an adventurer I’m always trying to go a thousand more steps to get to the best locations.

You can get more information about Terrence here:
