WHAT TO DO IF YOU SHOULD HIT A WILD B***O
SAFETY FIRST
Instantly turn on your hazard lights or emergency flashers to warn oncoming vehicles and avoid further accidents. If possible, pull over to the side of the road and if you must leave your vehicle, stay off the road and out of the way of any oncoming vehicles. CALL FOR HELP
Take responsibility by calling 911 for help, never hit an animal of any kind and flee the scene, this is animal cruelty. You want to help avoid further suffering to the animal from being hit by another car or creating another car accident. NEXT
Call your local Animal Control, wait for help to arrive, if a wild b***o can be saved the authorities will contact DonkeyLand or in some cases transport the b***o to the Rescue Center or the Hospital. You are more than welcome to call DonkeyLand too, but you MUST report a car accident to the authorities first. STAY AWAY FROM THE INJURED WILD B***O
Never approach the injured animal, keep your distance, if an animal reacts to your presence, you’re too close. Stay safe until help arrives, sometimes a good deed can go bad, causing an animal to run off before help arrives, possibly causing further injury and suffering. A frightened, wounded wild b***o can bite, use its powerful legs and hooves to harm you. BABY ORPHAN
If it is a mother that has been killed and there is a baby orphan nearby, please do NOT try to capture or get close to the baby because it will not survive if it is afraid and runs away on its own. Just keep a close eye on it until help arrives. DECEASED WILD B***O
If the b***o dies at the scene please make sure the authorities pull the body far off the road to allow a safe way for the herd or the surviving wild b***o family to safely mourn. The body will be tagged by Animal Control and removed by the body removal service. PLEASE DO NOT POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THE DANGERS OF POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA ADD NO BENEFIT TO THE DISTRESSED OR ORPHANED ANIMAL. IT USUALLY DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD AND TAKES US LONGER TO RESCUE THE WILD B***O DESPERATELY NEEDING HELP, DUE TO HUMAN INTERFERENCE.

Sometimes, miracles are born from heartbreak. Sometimes the answer is as close as next door. 💔❤️

Just a few days ago, this tiny orphan was rescued—frightened, vulnerable, and alone. While recovering in the hospital, she endured another devastating loss when the other rescued orphan didn't survive after being attacked in the wild.

In the stall next door stood a grieving mother horse named Candela, whose own baby had just passed away. Two broken hearts. Two souls overwhelmed by loss.

The veterinary team decided to take a chance and introduce them. The moment they met, everything changed.

The little orphan b***o found the love, comfort, and protection she so desperately needed. Candela welcomed her with the care only a mother can give. In that instant, an orphan found her mom... and a grieving mother found the baby she had been longing to nurse, protect, and love.

Not every story has a happy ending, but every once in a while, life gives us a miracle that reminds us hope still exists.

Thanks to a caring resident who opened their gate and made the call, she was rescued from the Pigeon Pass area before it was too late. Happy Father's Day, Leeroy!

Today we are in the Colton jurisdiction area off Reche Canyon Road working to safely capture and transport an injured wild b***o named Leeroy. He has been fiercely protecting his mate and their baby Buster, and it's easy to understand why—b***os form strong bonds and often stay together for life.

Because of this special family bond, we received permission to keep the family together during the rescue. Leeroy is well known in the area and frequently wanders into locations that create serious public safety concerns.

We notified local law enforcement before the operation, and we've received many calls from concerned residents wanting to make sure no one was kidnapping the b***os. We appreciate the community's concern and support.

Please, please keep Walt in your prayers tonight.

Walt is more than just a wild b***o. He is one of the last living legends from the local hills. He was part of the 60 Freeway Herd, a gentle old soul who survived decades in the rugged hills against incredible odds. At nearly 40 years old, he is one of the oldest b***os we have ever known.

After a lifetime of hardship in the wild, Walt finally found safety at the DL Bob Barker Sanctuary, where he has been enjoying the care and comfort he so deserves in his golden years.

Today, our hearts dropped when Walt was found down and unable to get up. We knew something was terribly wrong. He was rushed to the hospital, where veterinarians are now doing everything they can to help him.

It is impossible to put into words how much this sweet old gentleman means to us. He has become a symbol of resilience, survival, and hope. Seeing him struggle is heartbreaking.

Right now, we don't know what the outcome will be, but we do know that Walt deserves every chance we can give him.

This beautiful wild b***o is in a desperate fight for survival.

For who knows how long, she suffered alone free-roaming in the wild, carrying a foal she could not deliver. Tragically, her baby did not survive. Exhausted, in pain, and facing a 911 life-threatening medical emergency, she urgently needs veterinary intervention if she is to have any chance of survival.

Thanks to the compassion of a local family on San Timoteo Canyon Road who refused to ignore an animal in distress, help finally arrived. We are also deeply grateful to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services for safely transporting her to the hospital, where a team is now preparing to give her the emergency care she so desperately needs.

Our hearts are broken for the suffering she has endured and for the loss of her foal. Yet despite everything, she is still fighting.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers tonight. She has already endured more pain than any living creature should have to bear, and she needs every chance possible to pull through.

Sweet baby May has already faced more hardship than any baby ever should.

This orphaned wild b***o was rescued alone and fighting to survive. After spending time in the hospital, she has finally been released and is now at DL Rescue Center’s orphanage, where she is receiving 24-hour care, comfort, and the nourishment she desperately needs.

Without her mother, May depends entirely on her caregivers for every bottle, every feeding, and every bit of love. Though she is safe now, her journey is far from over.

A legend. A true survivor.

This incredible wild b***o is the only one known to have naturally healed in the wild after surviving the brutal attacks in the Triangle of Death. One of a kind, this remarkable b***o is a living testament to resilience, strength, and the healing power of freedom.

Today, he or she continues to roam freely with a herd on one of the DL properties.

We ask everyone to please respect this b***o's freedom and refrain from calling to report that rescue is needed. While the b***o is on the thin side, the herd has access to food and water, and we will continue to monitor them from a distance.

The very thing that helped this b***o survive and heal was remaining with his or her family. The best thing we can do now is allow this survivor to continue living freely among the herd that has played such an important role in that recovery.
