WHAT TO DO IF YOU SHOULD HIT A WILD B***O
SAFETY FIRST
Instantly turn on your hazard lights or emergency flashers to warn oncoming vehicles and avoid further accidents. If possible, pull over to the side of the road and if you must leave your vehicle, stay off the road and out of the way of any oncoming vehicles. CALL FOR HELP
Take responsibility by calling 911 for help, never hit an animal of any kind and flee the scene, this is animal cruelty. You want to help avoid further suffering to the animal from being hit by another car or creating another car accident. NEXT
Call your local Animal Control, wait for help to arrive, if a wild b***o can be saved the authorities will contact DonkeyLand or in some cases transport the b***o to the Rescue Center or the Hospital. You are more than welcome to call DonkeyLand too, but you MUST report a car accident to the authorities first. STAY AWAY FROM THE INJURED WILD B***O
Never approach the injured animal, keep your distance, if an animal reacts to your presence, you’re too close. Stay safe until help arrives, sometimes a good deed can go bad, causing an animal to run off before help arrives, possibly causing further injury and suffering. A frightened, wounded wild b***o can bite, use its powerful legs and hooves to harm you. BABY ORPHAN
If it is a mother that has been killed and there is a baby orphan nearby, please do NOT try to capture or get close to the baby because it will not survive if it is afraid and runs away on its own. Just keep a close eye on it until help arrives. DECEASED WILD B***O
If the b***o dies at the scene please make sure the authorities pull the body far off the road to allow a safe way for the herd or the surviving wild b***o family to safely mourn. The body will be tagged by Animal Control and removed by the body removal service. PLEASE DO NOT POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THE DANGERS OF POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA ADD NO BENEFIT TO THE DISTRESSED OR ORPHANED ANIMAL. IT USUALLY DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD AND TAKES US LONGER TO RESCUE THE WILD B***O DESPERATELY NEEDING HELP, DUE TO HUMAN INTERFERENCE.

Thank you to everyone who helped save tiny orphan Precious from San Timoteo Canyon Road. She is still receiving care at SoCal Equine Hospital and will hopefully be ready to come home very soon.

Her life will never be the same without her mom. No one can replace a mother, and there is no substitute for that bond. It’s truly heartbreaking.

If you haven’t donated yet, please consider helping give this innocent baby the best life possible by making a donation on her behalf. Any amount, big or small, is deeply appreciated. Raising an orphan is incredibly expensive, and we can’t do it without your support.
Thank you for caring for Precious and being part of her journey.

The 60 Freeway Herd of Moreno Valley are caught and heading to DonkeyLand to our new Eli & Watson Bachelor Sanctuary ❤️

The additional 60 Freeway Herd of Moreno Valley desperately need help. It’s life or death!!! It’s a public safety hazard!!! Yesterday they were on the freeway and Moreno Valley Animal Control responded in 15 minutes to our text and today they safely caught the new herd that formed in the wild. Thank YOU to Melvin the field service commander and the entire team at MVAC.

We have been flooded with calls regarding this herd near the freeway and on the freeway. We have been called when a b***o has been struck by a vehicle and most of the time, it’s too late to save them because the impact of the car, usually kills them.

Moreno Valley Animal Control is helping get the herd to our beautiful local sanctuary. They will only be in a trailer for approximately 5 minutes. That’s why we set-up locally for minimal stress on the animals and they can continue to live their life out local on land in the heart of their home and together with their family because b***os bond for life.

Essentially, we're doing it for safety, for both people and the b***os, because this herd has been on the freeway numerous times. Let’s come together and make their dreams come true.

If it weren’t for animal lovers like you, we wouldn’t have been able to rescue the sick, injured and orphaned wild b***os. This herd, is a healthy herd, losing their land to development and their lives out there. The bachelor herds are usually intact jacks that were pushed out of their herd, they lost their herd to a more stronger dominant male or were never strong enough to start a herd.

DonkeyLand Sanctuary phase two is that special place for herds like this — a local place of hope and safety. They have a sense of freedom to roam on 450+ acres that is fully fenced, just for them.

DonkeyLand is dedicated to saving wild b***os and their habitats at our 2,000+ acre oasis, a Rescue, Sanctuary and Wildlife Preserve. DL Sanctuary is a slice of heaven on earth for these beautiful creatures, where dreams come true. As b***os bond for life, they will spend the rest of their lives together forever.

Please, make your best gift now to give them the life they deserve. We ask if there are any donor angels out there who can donate $5.00, $10.00, $15.00, $20.00, $50.00 or even $100.00 today it would be greatly appreciated.

911 EMERGENCY RESCUE
This wild b***o was found struggling to walk and in urgent need of help. Tonight, he is finally safe. He now has food, fresh water, and a comfortable place to rest on soft shavings. He will be fully examined, including X-rays, and seen by renowned surgeon Dr. Wan, who has saved so many wild b***os lives.

A huge thank you to Debra Craig from Moreno Valley Matters for calling this in and staying with him until help arrived. We’re also incredibly grateful to Moreno Valley Animal Control for assisting after hours.

We’ll continue to share updates as we learn more—please keep this sweet boy in your good thoughts and prayers.

Our newly completed Eli and Watson Bachelor Sanctuary marks a major milestone in our mission to provide safe, appropriate, and lifelong refuge for wild b***os in need.

This 450+ acre expansion was made possible by an extraordinarily generous donor who was moved by the urgent situation facing the Moreno Valley 60 Freeway herd. Recognizing the danger these animals faced—living in high-traffic areas that threaten both their lives and public safety—they stepped forward to help create a dedicated solution.

This sanctuary has been thoughtfully designed specifically for established bachelor herds—groups of intact male b***os that have naturally formed strong social bonds in the wild. These herds will now have the opportunity to remain together and live out their lives in a safe, spacious, and stable environment.

To ensure the safety and well-being of all animals, this sanctuary is not suitable for single, individual wild b***os, as introducing lone males into established bachelor groups can lead to serious conflict. Instead, single rescued males will be humanely castrated and integrated into our Phase One DL Sanctuary, where they can thrive safely.

The Eli and Watson Bachelor Sanctuary represents a compassionate and strategic approach to rescue—one that honors natural herd dynamics while addressing urgent public safety concerns. Most importantly, it ensures that large bachelor herds, once at risk, now have a permanent place to call home—together, and free from harm.
