First native plant haul at Scott’s Wild Bird Preserve! Thank you for this opportunity to purchase native plants!

These native plants are adapted to the Coastal Plain ecoregion and will provide food, shelter, and nesting cover for many of our birds, insects, and other wildlife! Can’t wait to see how they continue to grow and add diversity to our ecosystem!

Happy Palm Sunday! Meet the Saw Palmetto(Serenoa repens), a small, shrub-like palm endemic to the Coastal Plain region of the U.S. They have fan shaped leaves with saw-like teeth along the stems, and the have a slender trunk that creeps along the forest floor. They are fire dependent, with may fire-resistant traits that allows them to persist in burned environments. It’s also an important shelter and food source for 100 wildlife species, including ground-nesting birds! Its berries are also used for medicinal purposes, preventing hair loss and urinary infections.
