A year ago, our troop decided to plan for a spring break trek in lieu of summer camp for 2026. During our week in the Keys and other stops in Florida, we learned about different cultures and Florida history, ecology, wildlife management, and aquatic activities. Our Scouts worked on 13 different merit badges and completed their kayaking and snorkeling awards. Our stops included the Everglades Alligator Farm, Dolphin Life hospital, Key West Butterfly Sanctuary, Sea Base coral reef restoration nursery, the Fountain of Youth, and multiple state parks. We also sampled amazing food along the way, including Key Lime Pies, deep fried Key Lime Pie at Burdine's, and multiple trips to Paradise Flavors in Marathon for their creamy popsicles. As good Scouts, we did our part to leave no trace while picking up trash at every park.

We had so many incredible experiences, and we would love to share future ones with you. We meet Monday nights, 7 pm, at our Scout cabin in Rincon. Reach out to Scoutmaster Lisa Scarbrough at [email protected] for more information.

This week, it was announced that our Scoutmaster is one of three Scouters selected to the Silver Beaver class of 2026 for the Coastal Georgia Council, Scouting America.

The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is a council-level distinguished service award of Scouting America. Recipients of this award are registered Scouters who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given at the council level. Recipients are nominated by their peers.

Help us celebrate them at our 2026 Council Annual Banquet.

March was all about the arts for our Scouts. On meeting nights, they worked on the art merit badge, working with acrylics, charcoal, painting, and sketches. Troop member Chloe S. was among the Effingham County High School band, known as the Rebel Regiment, as they traveled to New York City to march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

We are always welcoming new members. Reach out to Scoutmaster Lisa Scarbrough at [email protected] to drop in on a meeting and see how the young lady in your life can start her Scouting journey!

Troop 625G is proud to have our young ladies actively participating with our Order of the Arrow lodge, I-Tsu-La. In February, two youth members and our Scoutmaster attended the OA's National Leadership Seminar and Developing Youth Leadership Conference with the Eastern Region. Last weekend, one youth member and Scoutmaster joined the lodge for the spring fellowship weekend which included a tour on a nuclear submarine at Kings Bay.

Order of the Arrow is Scouting America's honor society. All members are voted in by their fellow troop members.

Want to know more? Come join us for a meeting! Reach out to Scoutmaster Lisa Scarbrough at [email protected] for more information on getting the young lady in your life involved.

Last weekend, Troop 625G did a Galentine's trip to Jacksonville, taking in hiking and culture at Fort Caroline before heading for an overnight at the Jacksonville Zoo. The troop hiked over 11 miles, worked on seven merit badges, and bonded while feeding various animals and learning how to navigate new places.

Want the young lady in your life to have new adventures while building leadership skills? Join us on Monday nights, 7 pm, for our regular troop meetings. Contact Scoutmaster Lisa Scarbrough at [email protected] for more information.

On Sunday, December 14th, Troop 625G along with members from Troop 625B and Pack 650 met at the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America. Along with the service, the girls did a short hike to Ebenezer Creek and a history tour to learn about the Salzburgers who settled Effingham, allowing them to work on some additional requirements for merit badges.

We'd love to have your family join us for these adventures. Contact us at [email protected] about visiting.

Another full weekend for 625G! Poor weather and some illnesses led us to do a "hang out" instead of a campout with our linked boys troop and Cub Scouts pack. Friday night was spent helping our Scouts wrap up some merit badge requirements. Saturday morning was an early start as the girls cooked breakfast for everyone. Then we headed out to participate in the annual Rincon Noon Lions Club Christmas Parade. We returned to the cabin to do some more merit badge wrap ups and rank work for our court of honor on the 15th followed by a Scoutmaster dance party to earn the new test lab merit badge for dance. We then shared a full holiday meal with our fellow troop and pack before ending the night with a Peace Light ceremony.

On Sunday, we came together to serve as honor guard for a fellow Scout who passed just before Thanksgiving. Our hearts and prayers continue to be with the family during this time.

Another great weekend of camping and adventures with 625G! Three Scouts and our Scoutmaster headed down to Camp Tolochee for the I-Tsu-La Lodge's ordeal weekend, where two Scouts completed their ordeal and a third her Brotherhood. Another section of the troop and leaders headed up to Black Creek Scout Reservation where they gave service to Cubs for the annual Webelos Weekend. We are so proud of all these outstanding young ladies!

Want to see the young lady in your life grow in leadership? Come visit us! We meet every Monday night, 7 to 8:30 pm, at our Scout cabin in Rincon (off Old Augusta Rd) while Effingham schools are in session. We welcome girls grades 5th to 12th to come see if Scouting America can be a fit for your family. Email Scoutmaster Lisa Scarbrough at [email protected] for more information.
