Our last day in Ghana was a goodbye to JayNii Streetwise sewing school to pick up and pack up the batiked slacks they made for Women InSpirit, a lovely lunch with partner Cecilia Buckle and her wonderful daughter, Mawuena at Noble House- a local chain of Indian and Chinese food. It was great to share a meal and conversation before heading out.
Sara asked to visit the Ghana National Mosque Complex, also known as the Accra Furqan National Masjid. Salihu and Mawuena joined us for a fantastic tour by Mr. Abbas…I think we all learned a lot about the Muslim way of worship. It really was a gorgeous site.
Then a drop off and big hugs at the airport- an amazing 18 days in Ghana- many unforgettable memories and so many moments with Women InSpirit gals!

The cost of educating a single Ghanaian student ranges from $1500-$2000 a year. But it’s so much more than that! More than tuition to either university or to a sewing school, we provide “the essentials” for our students to thrive in and out of the classroom.

📚 College students receive funding for lodging, meals, books, and medical in addition to tuition.

🧵Tailoring students receive funding for fabric and notions, a daily hot lunch, transportation, as well as a sewing machine upon graduation to ensure they can begin their business without delay. In addition to funding the tailoring students, we also provide salary for teachers and cooks.

The presentation of the sewing machines for the graduates Saturday.
Thank you to all who donate for the opportunity for us to gift each graduate with a new electric sewing machine.
I saw them today and they were busy, busy busy, finishing up the slacks that I ordered. If it weren’t for the last minute, nothing would get done, but I’m very grateful that they will have them finished tomorrow so that I can take them back. Jay and the girls aren’t exhausted from the whole experience of graduation. It was quite an event.
