Dear neighbors,

The Richmond Housing & Health Rights Coalition (HHRC) invites the community to share a meal this Saturday, August 22nd, at 1:00 PM. It'll be a potluck, so feel free to bring food, though you are welcome to join us regardless.

It's no secret that the majority of poor and working folks in our city are going through it - whether they are suffering under the heel of slumlords or they are being denied the healthcare access they deserve. Our aim with our potlucks is to hold a space where the community can not only vent their frustration, anger, and sadness over how poor and working folks in this city are treated, but also step away from the anguish, break bread together, and enjoy some good food.

We should acknowledge that we consider anybody who enters our space and continues to struggle against the issues we are faced with to be a leader, and thus somebody whose voice will be heard as we build our coalition together.

Dear folks,

We need your help finding leaders and building community in Richmond, and it starts at the doorstep. The Richmond Housing & Health Rights Coalition (HHRC) is hosting Door-by-Door Community Building this Tuesday, July 7th at 4:45 PM. We will meet at the Earlham Front Drive (between the 2 first front-facing buildings on campus, Landrum Bolling Center and CST). If you're new, we will train you, and everybody will be partnered with an experienced door-knocker who will help guide you through the process.

It's no secret that the majority of poor and working folks in our city are going through it - whether they are suffering under the heel of slumlords, or they are being denied the healthcare access they deserve. We can't build a movement so long as their stories remain untold.

We understand that door-knocking can seem intimidating. However, our door-knockers almost always walk away with a great experience, whether that be because of amazing conversations with community members, or successfully inviting the folks most impacted by the issues we are dealing with into leadership within our coalition.

Dear neighbors,

The Richmond Housing & Health Rights Coalition will have a table at Richmond's Pride Festival this Saturday, from 12 to 6 PM, standing in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Likewise, our potluck meeting for this Saturday will be cancelled.

Hi folks,

I want to invite you to the Richmond Housing & Health Rights Coalitions Door-by-Door Community Building Activity this Saturday, May 2nd. We'll try to gather at 12:45 in the Earlham Front Drive (between the 2 first front-facing buildings on campus, Landrum Bolling Center and CST).

We will aim to canvass from 1 pm till 3:30 pm (though you don't have to stay the whole time!).

Transportation is provided to surveying sites. There will be snacks as well.

We need as many hands on deck as possible for this; our building community and exchanging stories with folks is one of our most important tasks!

The premise is we have these extremely simple housing surveys and a list of probable-tenant addresses; we go door knocking at these places in the hopes of getting survey responses. The real aim, of course, is to create dialogue with folks, discover more stories, and build community. We also have helpful resources we pass out to folks.

We always go in pairs, and everyone is trained. It's fun, actually, especially when you're with people. And folks are nice.
