Youth Improvement Movement #YIM YIM is an organization developed for the youth of Richmond. We are here to provide tools to aid in your growth and development into adulthood.

Our Mission:
Our mission is to Empower the youth of Richmond, IN by encouraging them to dream, set goals and plan for the future. We will not only show them, but we will give them the tools necessary to achieve those dreams and aspirations and connect them with a college mentor. We are here to empower and give back to a community; a community we call home.

About us:
YIM is a committee comprised of 7, Richmond natives ranging from the age of 20 to 30. The committee was formed because all of us saw that the youth in our hometown were in dire need of empowerment, encouragement and uplifting. We know how difficult and overwhelming planning for college and life after graduation in general can be and we want to help the youth in their transition. It is easy to just tell someone to go to college, but it can prove to be very difficult to figure out what steps need to be taken to get there and how to survive once they are enrolled. Our committee is striving to encourage youth to dream and help them achieve their dreams. Event:
A one day event for the youth of Richmond, ages 14-18 at Townsend Community Center. The event will feature male and female breakout sessions/workshops and a group session. The topics of the breakout sessions will be empowerment, s*x, drugs, pregnancy bullying, etc. In the group session we will provide them with the resources necessary to succeed in college. Some of the speakers will be local and some will be from out of town. Following the sessions will be a cookout, where local vendors will pass out samples, pamphlets, etc. Following the cookout will be a kickball game. We look forward to having a successful event and we need your help to make it happen!

Sometimes we must separate ourselves from others so that we can reach our full potential. This is not easy by any means and it may be the most difficult task you've ever had to complete. BUT it is necessary and in the end you will be thankful that you did.

Good evening Richmond friends. This is about to be a long post so I understand if you don't read it but I hope you do.

Today, along with many other days I wonder why our city is not flourishing. Richmond has so much potential, and I'm sure you feel the same way too. Then it hit me...it is because we lack communication about the opportunities that actually exist here. I always hear people saying, "there's nothing fun to do here, it's so boring here, etc..."

Today though, I went to Clearcreek Park to play disk golf and I saw tons of people out and about. First of all, I didn't even KNOW we had a disk golf course. Then as I began to look around I saw tons of people enjoying basketball, softball, and there was even a horseshoe throwing tournament happening!

My point is, there are tons of fun things to do around here, no matter how you define fun, whether it is educational, sport involved, or leisure, that pertains to adults, adolescents, and children.

My question to you is...why aren't we aware of all of the opportunities in Richmond? Is it because we are not listening? Is it because there are enough volunteers for events? Is it because there isn't enough good media to spread the word. (That could be via radio, fliers)

I feel sometimes our community is so close knit, or not close knit enough that the word only spreads so far and then stops.

If you have a moment please take the time to comment one good thing about Richmond. One good program, one good event that takes place every year, an educational program you find intriguing, literally ANYTHING you wish other's knew about.

Can we please start taking this city back and making it...a better community? This is one tiny step closer.

SAT and ACT test dates are fast approaching! Colleges need these for your admittance. So get registered early and have a chance to take the test a time or two. It never hurts to take the tests a few times to get the best score possible!
