This week, DSA President Antonio Ochoa joined public safety association leaders from across California at the State Capitol for the AB 1383 Rally, organized by PORAC (Peace Officers Research Association of California) and California Professional Firefighters. The rally called for Governor Newsom to sign AB 1383 into law, which would modernize PEPRA retirement benefits for public safety members by allowing for an earlier maximum benefit age and adjustments to the pensionable compensation cap.

Participants walked from the State Capitol through the California Peace Officers' Memorial and delivered more than 8,000 letters of support from elected officials across the state to the Governor's office. We made our voices heard. Now, let's get AB 1383 across the finish line!

The future of public safety starts with protecting those who serve. PEPRA has made it increasingly difficult for law enforcement agencies across California to recruit and retain qualified officers. Since its implementation, agencies have faced growing staffing challenges, increased overtime demands, and difficulties attracting the next generation of peace officers.

AB 1383 is a targeted effort to modernize PEPRA and strengthen recruitment and retention for the future of California law enforcement. PORAC has created an easy-to-use advocacy portal that allows members to send a message directly to their State Senator. Your voice helps legislators understand why this issue matters. Send a message to your State Senator today at https://speak4.app/lp/0j011svt?ts=1782247899 and learn more at https://porac.org/advocacy/ab-1383/
