The Forest Service has designated June 6, 2026, as an additional recreation fee-free day to celebrate National Trails Day. On this day, all standard amenity recreation sites on Forest Service lands will be available at no cost to the public.
National Trails Day is a nationwide celebration of our trail systems—honoring the places that connect us with nature, with one another, and with our public lands. It is also a call to action: a day dedicated to trail stewardship, community participation, and ensuring these routes remain sustainable and accessible for generations to come.
Partners and volunteers are at the heart of this work. Across the country, they contribute more than half of all trail maintenance efforts. In 2025 alone, volunteers and partner organizations helped care for nearly 26,000 miles of trails—an extraordinary accomplishment made possible through shared commitment, collaboration, and a love for the outdoors.
This year on the Custer Gallatin National Forest, we are proud to join with several of our many partners to host National Trails Day events across the forest. More opportunities may be added, so stay tuned! Events scheduled for June 6 include:
Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation & Beartooth Trails – Silver Run Trail Realignment
Beartooth Trails
Rendezvous Trail Day
Rendezvous SkiTrails
Moser Creek Trailhead Improvement Project
Friends of Hyalite
Little Trail Creek Trail Improvement
