What is Kawasaki Disease?

Kawasaki Disease is a serious childhood illness that causes inflammation of the blood vessels. It most often affects children under age 5 and can lead to heart complications if not diagnosed and treated quickly.

Common signs include:

• Fever lasting 5 days or more
• Red eyes
• Rash
• Red, cracked lips or strawberry tongue
• Swollen hands, feet, or lymph nodes

The good news is that early treatment can help prevent serious heart issues.

At Kawasaki Kids Foundation, we focus on awareness, education, and family support because every child deserves the best chance at a healthy future.

Thanks to your action, tens of thousands of New Mexicans got vaccinated this past year. Let’s keep it going!

Vaccines don’t just protect you–they protect your neighbors, your children’s classmates, and the most vulnerable members of our communities.

When you stay up-to-date on your immunizations, you build a shield around everyone you love; and that is something worth celebrating!

Learn more about immunization guidance by visiting vaccine.doh.nm.gov

And don’t forget to stay current on your vaccines. Give us a call at 1-833-796-8773 or visit vaccine.doh.nm.gov for help finding a vaccine provider.
