A Better English Setter Rescue

A Better English Setter Rescue English Setter Rescue A Better English Setter Rescue's goal is to help unwanted, homeless English Setters by providing them a loving foster home.
(1)

When the dogs are in foster care they will be altered, evaluated, and receive all vetting needed for adoption. Each foster home will evaluate personality, behaviors and activity level. At that time the foster
home determines the home situation their foster would be happiest. Each home will be carefully screened to determine whether an English Setter is the correct choice. Home visits will be done

as well as veterinary and reference checks. English Setters in A Better English Setter Rescue’s care will never be warehoused. Each dog will live in a home situation (no kennels or living outdoors) as either the only foster dog or one of 2 adult foster dogs, so a true evaluation of each dog can occur before adoption. Typically ABESR dogs have interaction with other dogs and many times children, cats, and even birds! Every dog rescued will remain in our care until the correct match is found. Each and every dog will remain in foster care for a minimum of two (2) weeks for evaluation. ABESR will assist individuals needing to re-home their English Setters by courtesy posting the dogs on our available dog’s page. These dogs are clearly identified as courtesy posted. ABESR will not be able to attest to temperament or provide any evaluation as these dogs are not in our care or program.

We wanted to share a massive thank you to everyone who donated toward Rain’s care and provide you with an update on how this brave girl is doing!

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised enough to cover not only Rain’s surgery but also the follow-up care she’ll need over the coming weeks. We truly cannot thank you enough. By removing the weight of these medical costs, you’ve allowed us to keep saying "yes" to other setters in need of urgent help.

Rain is finally starting to feel a bit more like herself! Her recovery from anesthesia was a bit of a rocky road, and she’s had a lot to contend with all at once. On top of the surgery to her eye, she is currently in heat and recently tested positive for two different tick-borne illnesses. We’ve seen her first few tail wags over the last couple of days, and she is absolutely loving the fresh air and beautiful spring weather in her foster family's yard.

Because her eye socket is still healing, Rain is on a strictly soft-food diet for the next few weeks. She’s currently a very picky eater, which has made administering her medications a bit of a challenge. To support her body through this healing process, she needs high-quality wet food!

We’ve put together a wishlist for Rain to help offset these food costs for her foster family. If you’re able to send a few cans her way, it would make a world of difference in her recovery journey!

Thank you again for the outpouring of love for this sweet girl. We’ll continue to share updates as she finds her spark again and settles into her new life.

🚨 URGENT: Emergency fundraiser for Rain 🚨

Late last week, we received word of a sweet Setter named Rain sitting in a rural Indiana shelter, suffering from a severe and urgent medical condition. We were able to pull her safely the moment her stray hold ended yesterday, and thanks to the incredible team at the Animal Eye Institute, she was seen first thing this morning.

The news is difficult: Rain is suffering from a corneal perforation caused by an infected ulcer. The infection has compromised her entire eye, resulting in total vision loss and significant, constant pain. To stop the infection and pain, Rain is undergoing emergency surgery TODAY to remove the eye.

Despite the agony she must be in, Rain has spent the last 24 hours showing nothing but pure love and affection toward her foster mom. She is a resilient, gentle soul who is so clearly ready to start her new life—she just needs this one major hurdle cleared first.

The estimate for her surgery and immediate post-operative care is $2,500.

We are asking our community to rally for Rain. Whether you can give $5 or $500, every dollar directly funds her path to a pain-free life.

Willow
Courtesy post for English Springer Rescue America, Inc. (ESRA). When rescues work together, we all win. Meet beautiful Willow (formerly Marley), a 6-year-old, 65Lb (not a Springer!) setter mix. Her DNA results indicate she is 51% Llewellin Setter.

Willow needs a loving foster home. She has to be the only dog. Willow originally came from a shelter who looked like a springer but is a mix, however very sweet, mellow, happy and affectionate dog. Willow especially loves her belly rubs and massages. She can be left for several hours at home. She is great with children and cats. She enjoys and walks well on leash but can be reactive to other dogs. Willow is healthy, spayed and up to date on vaccines.

She is located in eastern North Carolina.

Puppy Wishlist Alert ❤️🐶

This week we got the call from a rural Kentucky shelter inundated with puppies and urgently needing our help moving a litter of setter/beagle mix puppies. Thanks to our amazing intake and foster coordination team, and generous offers from amazing temp fosters, all 6 puppies are leaving the shelter Saturday morning.

Our fosters have committed at a moment's notice, and we want to ensure they are set up for success with some puppy supplies. Can you help clear these pups wishlist?

Hospice Foster Wishlist ❤🐾

From time to time, we encounter pups who come into our care and will never leave. They need a soft place to spend their remaining days, however long that may be. We are committed to providing these hospice foster pups with the best possible life, oftentimes they have never known love or affection, or even a cozy bed.

We welcomed Lady in as a hospice foster in late February. She had only known life in a kennel, a life that no setter deserves. She has settled into her foster home and is a pro napper. She has been treated for a UTI and ear infection, in addition to undergoing surgery to remove a tumor. We foresee that she will need some ongoing medical care during her days with us. Her amazing foster mom is committed to Lady through whatever she needs.

Today, we are asking for your help in supporting Lady and her foster mom through a wishlist. Our biggest priority is ensuring Lady has good nutrition and proper supplements to take care of her joints. There are also items on this list to help spoil this sweet senior girl; she truly deserves the world!

We love when our adopters reach out with updates. It was June of 2023 when Huckleberry met his forever family. "He is a big time talker, loves his toys, and watching all the wildlife on our property." Such a handsome boy! Thank you for sharing his beautiful picture.
